Is my compressor blown!?

Hi guys,
Recently I purchased a mixing console and while negotiating the price, I got the guy to throw in a TL Audio stereo valve compressor.
However this compressor doesn't seem to be working properly. The DI inputs are working, but when I insert it into my signal I just get a distorted sound (noise) out of it.
I opened it and closed it straight away coz it looks too f***ing complicated in there ....
Anyone had any sort of experience with something like this? Maybe the tubes are gone?? I dunno man, but it's stuffed

its the Mixer's inserts? Have you tried to insert any other pieces of gear?

exactly right....and me, believing people as I usually do, didn't even try it when I took it

no, don't think so...I tried going into compressor right out of the preamp, get the same shit....
