Question Format from xt20 to 16 bit at 44.1k

If I format a tape on an xt20 at 16/44.1, when I use it in a blackface, will the sample rate automatically be 44.1? Or will I still have to "pitch down" to 44.1?

You have to pitch down, the sample rate does not rely on the formatting of the tape

OK, I did a little experiment. I formatted 2 tapes to 16/44.1 on my xt20. Synced up the xt20 to a blackface with the xt20 as ID1. Fed a 44.1 signal through litepipes to both with xt20 set at dig in, clock at dig/44.1. Set blackface at dig in and pitch at 00. Recorded about 5 min. of audio.
On playback, the audio was perfect, but the blackface counter was way behind.
Swapped tapes and the counters were reversed, but audio was still perfect.

The reason behind all of this is I've recently purchased an HD24 to record several upcoming concerts for others. I started thinking about using my xt20 and 2 blackfaces as back up via litepipe.
I don't want to be like the wedding photographer that went to develop the pics only to find out he had no film in the camera!
