need comments on drum sounds

This is my first post in the clinc. Im looking for some feedback on this drum track. Im not to crazy about the kick drum sound.
There is a scratch guitar track in the back round.
Im more of a guitarist than a drummer.

Lo down on mic's:
kick: cad m37
main snare: sm 57
rack toms: sm57
stereo overheads: Mk-012's
2nd snare: peavey dynamic vocal mic

I would be more worried about the snare than the kick. The kick sounds like it could work for that type of music if you sucked out everything except the bottom (around 65-85 hz) and top (around 2-2.5hz). The snare sounded a little thin, like maybe the mic was too far away. If I were you, I'd ditch the second snare mic and just get that 57 pointed at an angle directly toward the center of the drum, as close as you can go w/o having the drummer hit it too much. That has always worked for me, but the important part is to make sure your snare is tuned to perfection. A tuned snare will have a lot more power than a poorly tuned one.

The only eq i applied on the kick is a hi cut.
The snare is a pearl 13x3 piccolo. I havent applied any eq but a low cut to the snare. The second snare mic is for the second snare drum. I just tuned the snare, but i have a worn head on their ($ ).
It does sound of thin , i noticed when i bring up the guitar track the snare gets a little lost. Im gonna have to try another snare mic postion.
Do you think my overheads sound a little too sizzlly?

where is your hi-cut cutting? i mean what frequencies does it attenuate? I've never been able to get a good kick sound if I cut too many highs. It takes away, well, the top end. In fact, thats what I heard in your recording: a lot of boom on the kick but not enough snap. You could maybe try, as I said before, removing the high-cut and actually BOOSTING the 2-2.5kHz range on the kick.
**Although these are kind of null points if your mic/positioning wasn't done well. what kind of mic/positioning did you use?

by the way... if you're into that kind of metal/metalcore/hardcore, check out some of my stuff. there's a post lingering somewhere at the bottom called 'h-diment'. the first song is heavy, the other one more poppy.

GRIND CORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Man that brings back memories. We had a rehearsal studio and the band right next to us was this louder then hell grind core band. I really grew to hate them, lol.

Tight drumming but it sounds very weak and distant. Do you have a compressor? If you could compress the overheads it would really add a lot more punch. A cool trick is to combine a heavily compressed mix of the drums back in with the uncompressed mix. Use a fast attack and decay so it really pumps.

they normally do that for the kick and snare only. But, play around and see what you like.

I think your biggest problem isn't mixing at this point. Try moving your mics closer first, and play around with the mic position.
