Personal Monitor Mix

I would like to monitor myself from the main board, through my board and through in-ear phones. How do I split the signal from the main board and get it to my board? Also, do I need a limiter to protect my hearing in case there is a spike in the signal, and could you please give me a model and brand of limiter? Would an RNC accomplish this? Thanks.

Could you be a little more specific about what gear you are using? Are you talking about a live situation?

this IS a live situation. I have a Mackie 1202 mixer. I monitor with Etymotic in-ear phones. I would like to hear the guitar, bass, keys and vocals in each channel so I can adjust their volumes individually.
