Very nice song. I love acoustic, you have a great sound.
My only complaint would be the snare sound. To me it's a bit weak even for electronic. Just my opinion, but I really did enjoy the song. |

very nice! outstanding guitar skills -- I also think that the weak (the only) point in the tune is the snare - not nur just too weak, but the wrong one.. I think...

Smooth light jazz jam jeff.I know I've probably asked you this before but have you ever listen to Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons? This is in that same genre of music IMHO.Cool stuff that I dig.
Good recording and mix.Let me know when your next CD goes on sell. |

Sweet!
I dig the percussion. The flowing strings and saws are tasteful. Flawless playing as usual. Nice tune! Joel |

Groovin tune as usual Jeff. no mix complaints. Add my vote to the "change the snare sound" list. I think I like everything you've posted so far, and this is no exception. You always show excellent taste.

Thanks for the posts everyone.
That’s one great thing with this message board… you can rely on the ears of other members to double-check your work. I was having trouble coming up with a snare sound… as I always do… and I think I eq’d this one to death.. so im taking all your suggestions and going with a real snare drum… which im setting up now. I have all the midi information down for the beat so all I have to do is trigger a different snare to taste… sooo I’ll post the new version tomorrow As for your comments… Starting with the previous thread: mixmkr agreed… I’ll have that new snare finished tomorrow… I also agree that its sometimes desirable to use your instruments in moderation.. as I should be doing with the percussion, Im getting there with the programming. Thanks for checking in. Erichenryus Thanks for your honesty. Im really into that ambient Kmart stuff.. soo I’ll take that as a complement I used to play around the area with my band until around a year ago… im the only one who wanted to play all the time… so now I play on my time and around my schedule.. I love it!Its funny… that really nice health club in Libertyville called the Center Club wanted me to play for their 10 year opening… but I refused because of short notice. (2 days) I’ll let you know when I start playing out again… Im having a blast recording the stuff on my mind without any limitations.. so this is a great time for me. Thanks for stopping in Guernica Hey G Don’t work too hard… ! Hey…. did you and your wife have a boy or a girl and how is life as a parent? Im sure its rewarding Im posting a new snare version tomorrow… so Im not sure what version you’ll get.. but I’ll talk to ya again ![]() Sjcrts Thanks for the comments. I will have a new snare tweaked for tomorrow.. I new that little bugger would be a nuisance I just couldn’t tuck her back in the mix so nobody would notice Thanks and welcome to the board!Groovejunkie Its funny you all have the same trained ears in here and I agree whole heartedly. Ive never been a drummer .. I kinda play by how I think it should sound. So… Im referencing a couple good songs with nice snare and adding a new one. Thanks for your thoughts ![]() Kramer Hi Kramer No, I have never heard of Russ Freeman or the Rippingtons. If I get a little extra time.. I might have to check them out. ![]() I have a bunch of material that I will be putting another album and also in the process of talking with people to do some studio work… so I’ll keep ya posted! Thanks for the interest! Jcmm Thanks Joel for the great comment. I also really enjoyed checking out your new song with Jamal. Your sounding really great.. keep up the great work! Twist Hi twist… ok.. your vote tallys at 10-0 to change the snare… I guess I’ll have to get on that right away with those overwhelming odds ![]() Thanks a lot for your insight! jeff |

Cool! Can't wait to hear it with the new snare sound. I'm sure it will give it that "punch" it needs. I'm anxious now 'cause this really is a great tune! lol

On new45...
The guitars sounded real warm and sweet as usual. I would have expected nothing different . Nice playing too.I hadn't heard you use that synth-pop bass and drum sound before. I think I would have gone with a different sound myself. They didn't seem to compliment the "pure" guitar sounds that you have. Just my thoughts. |

Great guitarsound and performance!
![]() Not too fond of the accompanying parts (bit too slick), but that's a matter of taste. ![]() Perhaps a well chosen delay (responding to the bpm, delaying in eights for instance) can cover up the weak snare sound a little...but perhaps it fills up the mix while you just want to keep it open.

hey thanks for the comment everybody
I reuploaded the song and added: a second snare (real snare) mixed with the original snare)dance snare) real not panned and the dnace snare is panned left 15% and about 10db lower .. i like the tail it gives the real snare added some orchestral stuff. and mix a little better to even out the sounds. Im running out to eat.... i'll reply to everyone in a little bit Thanks!! new45 http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/...d=1564&alid=-1 |

....man, your guitars are just outstanding. You line up good guitar parts too. Very complimentary and tasty, rhythm-wise. Very nice stereo field in this one Jeff. ....good separation, but nothing sounds isolated. .....smooooove! It would be wayyyy to much work to farm for nits in this .Excellent man! 5 |

TripleM
Thanks for the listen TripleM... I did do some other synth bass on the song blue moon.. and I think on a couple others too. The bass was quite different... I was kinda shootin for a depeche mode kinda bass tone. so i was going for something quite different thats normaly done with contemporary music. im just trying to sound different, yet stay mainstream. This next song im working on has alot less percussion and less busy, so maybe you might like a little more. thanks for your comments ![]() Pedullist hah... i got a kick out of your title under your screen name funny!i wasnt trying to sound "too slick" but i guess thats just the way i mixed it. I was just trying to go for something different with somewhat of an appeal to most people This song started with a thought last thurs and built to its current state, but if i were to work on it for another week of soo.. im sure it would sound very different, but I sometimes like to leave well enough alone. Thanks!dtb Hey dtb... great to hear that you enjoyed this one! you might want to reload the song on your player considering i mixed in a different snare and did some other tweaking. im looking foward to hearing from you and your tunes soon. as always thank you Guernica you cant help but to smile seeing G's big 5 on the boards! I dont know what id do if I got a 4 id sell my guitars! haha Im glad to hear that you think everything is in place in the field of sound. I did spend a good deal of time turning computer dials to get everything sounding dandy. I felt like the wizard from the wizard of Oz i like to hear that it was smooth also.. cuz ultimatly thats what im shooting for... something to sit back to and think. always great to hear from ya!! ![]() sjcrts I really appreciate your thoughtful post. all students of the guitar (or any instrument) will always be students, so anytime is great to start. i know somebody that is in there 50's and starting to learn. music is a universal language for anybody at any age. its a great releaseautograph your wave file .. would that be called a digital signature?! hah!thanks again everyone! |

Cool tune!
Excellent chops, and a very smooth mix. The only nit I have is the drum sounds, but they aren't that bad- they just don't seem to gel completely with such good sounding guitars. ![]() |

I like the mix alot, everything can be heard clearly even when played at a low volume. That's wonderful!
I have no idea how to categorize this tune, don't they call this New Age at mp3.com? Whaever it is, this is cool, I can definitely hear this at the end of a sunday afternoon show or weather forecast anyway, this tune is so relaxing, that's my point. Good job Al |

Great stuff. Really nice melodies. I'm not sure about the drum stuff but it seemed to work well. Great guitar playing, they sounded beautiful. Every once in a while one of the twangy high notes would kind of stick me in the eye, but other than that, great mix. I liked the synths and the swooshy sound effects in the back ground.

Erichenryus
Oh yeah... I listen to WNUA all the time. I coincidently received something for a trip a day giveaway in the mail yesterday. I'm going to send them a cd soon... so maybe they can play a few of the tracks late at night on the starting artists lounge! ![]() Thats funny your right down the street from the centre club. I used to work out there quite a bit... Im friends with the manager, which is a fan! I still have to get in there and play a game of one on one B-ball with him. ![]() jake-owa hey jake.. im suppose to be making you try harder and make your fingers bleed through the strings hey... i feel the same way when i listen to good artists im going to take a peep at your new single after my typing here. thanks!M.Brane hey thanks! your right that the drums are the weak point. considering im not a drummer I have to go back to my favorite albums and listen to how a drummer plays to feel and program it on my computer. until I get some realistic drum samples or a real drummer... i guess they'll have to do. I even tried a few different snare and tried combining snares and this was the best i could do. For me, drums are the hardest thing to get right in a song... Im sure they'll sound fine as soon as i get the tricks right ![]() A1A2 Hi ala2. im glad ya like the mix. it took some time to get right and i still hear little probs. in there It really takes some time to train your ears to listen to everything that is going on with the mix. Its extremely easy to miss something when you have 30 tracks going at once. heres a look at the congestion: Im not really sure what to catagorize this music as... but a main genere of new age seems appropriate.. with small influences of world and folk/pop. at any rate I hope it doesnt sound think anything... that would be cool Thanks Alsilver_rye hi silver-rye... i dont might the pop classification at all... it fits in a few of those generes at different levels i think. Im glad you like the added syth noises... those kinda were a last minute add-in because there were some dry spots in there... welcome to the board and thanks! Erland hey'ya bloody bastard i tried to send you a pm a little while back but your message box was so full your mailbox was spitting it back out thanks for your kind words.. its great to have you stop by and listen to my ditties! Thanks E ![]() |

hi doug... ya beat me to the post
![]() thanks for the listen... my mics really are very sensitive.. so if you were to solo one of my acoustic tracks.. they're noises all over the place.. including the neighbors dog I did use noise reduction in a couple spots to take out some hiss, but besides that everything is in there including lassie ![]() I try to leave all the strings noises in there including slaps and stuff... it just gives an organic feel to the acoustic. thanks doug! |
