Measuremnt Mics & Tuning my rooms...?
I want to analyze my rooms correctly, so I can find the problems
and teat them myself. So I am wondering if anyone here has used a measurement mic to do this in your own studio, and where do you position the mic? I don't want to have to pay someone, because I'm a cheap sucker- (and poor.) I have a test tone generator, SF 6.0 & an ecm8000 mic Thanks for any info! Bob

I've spent a lot of time thinking about tuning my room.
Have you done any tests with your tone generator? I downloaded a very simple one. http://www.nt-instruments.com/minstruments/ What frequencies stand out in your room? Do you have anything to measure dB levels where you monitor from? I don't. But that would be handy. I think Radio Shack has one for about $25 bucks. I guess you could measure that with a mic, if you can figure out how much gain you are applying to the mic to hit 0dB on your incoming line meters with your speakers and program material set to unity. That's too much math for me. I used the Minirator set to sweep and could hear the bass buildup behind where I sit. I could also hear the mids are pretty honky in here, too. My hearing is kinda fucked up so what sounds good and what sounds good to my ears may vary somewhat...... Anyway, yeah, there's planty of people here trying to tune their rooms. I was gonna do the Auralex thing but I studied a little and decided against it. I can get way better control building my own traps and slot resonators. See SAE for everything you want to know about tuning rooms. http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html Good luck. |

Check out this site - go to the Demo Room link for sure. I downloaded the demo but have yet to set it up, but it sure looks like a cool tool -
http://www.etfacoustic.com/ As this kind of thing goes, they are cheaper than any I've seen... Steve
