I don't want to write it, but
Why don't we create a sticky thread about soundproofing, and how *true* soundproofing is really costly and requires lots of work, whereas sound treatment to deaden a room is achieveable with simple household items.

That sounds like a fantastic Idea to me, I've been lurking on this site for about a month now and am starting to get an idea of the difference between true sound proofing and "making this a little better" I'd love to hear some opinions on a middle ground, somewhere between perfection and god damn horrible!

How about reading the FAQ? It's in there.

oops, sorry, that FAQ is a sticky at the top of the recording.org site, not here. My bad. the suggestion is a good one.
MODERATOR: Any way to get a link to the FAQ as a sticky? It would help a LOT to center everyone. -mg |

Actually, I have read the faq, quite thoroughly in fact, I guess to be more clearly, I was looking for opinions on the practical differences between a professionaly treated room and a do it yourself job, has anyone got a really well done do it yourself type job? has anyone got a really poorly done pro room that they aren't happy with, and how close does one end of the spectrum come to the other?

The practical difference between hiring somebody and doing it yourself is:
<drumroll, please> IF you do your homework you'll save a ton of bread. Why shouldn't you be able to do as nice a job as someone else? Are we talking about building a room from the ground up or treating an existing room? http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html Check out John sayer's site. He's got all the formulas there and will walk you through it. Between John's site and Ethan Winer's site there should be plenty there to get you started. |
