Triton Sucks...

I don't really believe this but my posts must have boring subjects because they seldom get hit. Anywho...I am trying to see if anyone here is familiar with the predecessor to the Triton, the Trinity? If so is there any helpful advice about this board or recommendation concerning its sounds (which categories of instruments are good, etc...)?

Any help, humbly obliged...
Brian

Synthzone is the king for all sorts of links.

Not much info itself- but links abound.

It's my first stop for research- and gear lusting

Predecessor? Well, before Trinity, there was the Korg N364. I hear they're considered pretty bulletproof and decent sounding, especially when you consider for a used one they only cost 1/4 as much as a new Triton Classic 61.

Go to the Harmony Central user reviews, for comments. I will say that the B3 patches are the mutha fekkin shiznit (especially thru a real Leslie). I heard one today and about pissed myself.

Keep in mind that there have been big jumps in technology in the past few years. A trinity is not nearly as powerful or as good sounding as a Triton.

What if you cannot afford a Triton?

For 1/2 the money, a Trinity would do a nice job.

For 1/4 the money, an N364 would do a nice job.

Then again, I'm a cheap ass bastard who loves to make money playing cheap gear.

thanx...

to all for your replies, even those that made me want to trade in my Trinity (but hey that would be too much like right, huh?!).

they're both based on the same sound engine how is one better sounding then the other?

another option

Triton LE...

I did however get a chance to work with a Trinity a bit before I got my Triton. It was (is) a nice board but as was mentioned, technology has advanced.

In my (relatively little) experience I've found that smart playing can make the most out of lesser sounds. Things like:

- only playing instrument sounds in their "real" range (tubas low, flutes high, etc.) You can get the real range for different instruments off the net or an arranging book
- Listening for anomalies in the sample distribution and avoiding them (like I noticed on my triton there's a killer bari sax patch but there's an attack sound that isn't in one particlar section of the keyboard)
- arranging like an arranger of acoustic instruments and working on attack and release stuff (and use that ribbon controller...the trinity has one, right?)
- don't leave an unrealistic patch exposed, it will probably sound better (i.e. more real) in an ensemble context...

Of course, this only has to do with the horns/winds/strings kind of stuff.

Hope it helps

forget the triton -- the sounds are so played out because

1) everyone and theyre momma owns one

and

2) none of them know how to freak it (i.e. LAYER it)!

And you've gained this bias opinion from where?

I beg to differ... if everyone and their momma had one, then Triton sales would plunder. Yet, they continue to sell... hmm, immagine that.

Regardless of your opinion... the Triton is hard to beat in the realm of Keyboard workstations.

Played out?!?

Peep this,

It's amazing to me how everyone is always talkin' about how sounds are played out!

seems to me that it might not be the sounds but the ideas that are played.

after 200 to 400 YEARS:

the snare drum has not played out
the violin has not played out
the guitar has not played out
the trumpet has not played out
etc., etc.
Blue jeans haven't played out either (pre washed, pre shrunk, stone washed, acid washed, cut, stitched, tight, loose, sagged, etc.)

after 100 years:
the saxophone has not played out

the dimensions of the drum set that I bought in '79 as "standard" in '98 were "custom"!

There are MAJOR arrangers and producers in every genre who still use those played out M1's and even some DX7's and I won't even talk about those waaay played Rhodes that everyone is trying to emulate.

I see so many comments about what's hot and what's not when it ain't the axe, it's the axe-man that makes the cut!

my 2 cents.

ive gained this opinion thru use of the piece. 90% of the big name producers in rap have one, and therefore everyone feels that theyre "tight" and can make professional beats if you sit them in front of one.

DITNOJ: i was referring to the fact that most all of these people only use the presets on it, and they dont layer. thats why its played out

the triton can be tight, if you can use it the right way.

So then, you admit the sounds are not played out?

I love my Triton, and at times I hate it. I've been making beats for a little over 3 years, and I've only had my Triton for around 9 months now. I only use the Triton to make melodies... as that is all I feel it's good for. I use Reason 2.0 and Fruityloops to lace my Drum tracks, and then lace the melody with the Triton...

I'll agree on one aspect. Every Hip-Hop producer seems to have a Triton... I know for a fact that Pharell uses one, as well as Timbaland, Missy, LudaCris, Eminem, and Marly Marl... However, they all use them for different purposes, and achieve unique sounds respectively.

The only major Label using a Triton regularly for their beats, who also sucks at it, would be Murder Inc.

sit in front of a triton and do a few hours every week for a few months, and learn all the functions, and the triton is a great tool.

sit in front of a triton and just bang the keys and dont learn how to do anything and use all 3 of your brain cells, and you have 98% of all aspiring hip hop producers

but no, sorry i spoke wrong, i dont think the sounds itself are played out. i use a KARMA, which is the same sound engine, so that would be a hypocritical statement. what is played out is idiots who dont learn the functions of the triton and just bang the keys and expect they will be the next pharrell or dr. dre overnight

Well then, in that light, I agree 100%.
