Low cost vocal effects/techniques....

I was wondering if anybody can share any cheap vocal effects that they know about. I am looking for things I can do with my recorded music. I have a couple of sure 57's, an Alesis Microverb III, and a Yamaha MD8. One example is , I have used a small toy(sing along tape recorder that my 5 year old has) to sing in one part. Kinda cool actually. .

I have some hip-hoppy type stuff down and I am looking to experiment.

Oh did I mention, I don't have a lot of cash to spend on this right now, so I can't buy any expensive toys of my own in the near future.(I just bought the stuff prviously mentioned.)

I'm open to any suggestions, as long as it doesn't include chickens and chanting.

*try getting your mic inside a plastic soda bottle, and use a really high gain. Sing on the outside of the bottle.

*try singing over the phone. Put a mic on the other end

*sing inside a bucket or a big box

*get a megaphone

Yo Roch:

With your Alesis Midiverb III, you can try the different delays on vocals -- and when you do, you can tweak on the MD8 -- I have an MD8 in my studio but use the Yam 2816 most of the time. But, I did some interesting things on the MD8 and then remastered them via the 2816 and got good results.

You should also be able to tweak your pre-sets on the Midiverb and save anything that you create that you want to save.

I also have a Midiverb in the studio and when I was recording one gal singer, I'd adjust and tweak the pre-sets and save them for use another time -- it makes a difference for the singer depending on range, talent, key of the song, etc. But, I always liked to mess with the delays and sometimes made ten or eleven cuts of a vocal for my own amusement.

If you are looking for "different" sounds, try bizzare mic placement. 90% will probably be awful, but you might run into something interesting. Put the mic upstairs with high gain and sing downstairs, put the mic on one side of an electric fan and sing through the other, wierd stuff like that.
