Decent/inexpensive cable recommendation
I am looking for a couple Lo-Z and Hi-Z cables, but don't know where a good place to buy them is or what kind. Any suggestions? Thx

Make your own mic cables.
Mogami Neglex Balanced Mic Cable... $0.68 per foot. Designed For High End Recording Applications. Lower Capacitance Than Quad Style Cable. AWG #22. Capacitance @1khz 23pf/ft. .236" OD., Highly Flexible. Color: Black. Switchcraft A3FBAU Female XLR, Black with Gold Contacts... $4.99 each. A3MBAU Male XLR, Black with Gold Contacts... $4.49 each. Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction with satin nickel or Black Velvet finish to withstand hard use - even abuse.. High impact, molded thermoplastic insert insulation delivers high dielectric strength and superior insulation resistance. Latchlock on female plugs & chassis mounts prevent accidental disconnect ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE: Build six (15 foot) microphone cables for under $20 each. 90 feet of cable… $61.20 6 X $4.99 = $29.94 6 x $4.49 = $26.94 Total = $118.08 plus sodder and time Cost each = $19.68 For parts call Markertek 1-800-522-2025 or http://www.markertek.com Last edited by DJL; 03-29-2003 at 00:17.. |

Or (if you can't solder, like me...)
You can checkout HotWired! They use Mogami Cable and Neutrik XLR connectors.. http://www.stores.ebay.com/hotwiredc...pt1/index.html Not too much more.. Or... The Blue Kiwi cables (available from 8thstreet.com, Musician's Friend, etc...) |

I can't recomend PRO-CO. The one I had used very cheap wire. I replaced every cable in my studio this year, and made them all myself. I got spool of Belden 8412 and a bag full of Neutrik connectors and saved a bundle. And the quality control is excellent
. I wouldn't recommend this if you're not experienced with a soldering iron though.Twist |
