If you are using the comp/limiters in your D12, there`s your problem , they suck(sorry, but they really do).... I recommend a RNC...... Best of luck, and welcome into the world of GAS! Amund

Re: Re: Few Misc Questions....
Thanks. Very quick respones
![]() Ya, I have noticed my $1000 worth of recorder is worth about $100. I am hoping to upgrade. Any suggestions on a good HD recorder or replacement media? I need *at least* 4 simueltaneous recording inputs and 12 tracks. Also another problem I see with my Korg D12 is that (w/o CD) I have no way to export and edit tracks indivudally. |

....another comp/limiter ?
Sorry forgot to ask....
Should I indivudually compress/limit tracks or do the final mix only? |

Portable is fine well and dandy but 99% of what I will do will be in house so probably DAW is fine. My only concern is $$$. Hopefully we can keep it below a grand ;D

Ran me like $800. Protools is very easy. I try using cubase SX so i could later try different hardware, but i hate it, not as easy as protools. It has 2 pre-amps, with 6 line-level inputs.

2 concerns
Only concerns I have with PC based recording (which I have done to an extent before) is
A)Quality. Does your computer have to be SUPER fast MAXED with memory to get the quality/reliability of a hardware based system. For example, sometimes when using Sonar I get 'dropouts' even though I have a 1.8GHz with 512M DDRam unless I put the latency at some unreasonable level. (I like realtime) B)Required harddrive space. Am I going to need a SUPER large, extrra FAST HD (scuzzy mebbie?) If these will not be a prob I am drooling over the Digi002! Can i Use these products with Sonar or do I have to use ProTools? |

I am running a 1.4ghz athlon with XP and 256 megs of ram with 60 gig harddrive. I have no problems. i normally record at 44hz and 24 bits, when i record at 48hz it does slow my computer down, i bet 96k will bog it down big time. Great software to me personally thou.

Looking at the digi002 specs I see 8 in/8 out. So in order to use this correctly I have to have 8 seperate inputs on the comp or they just for use in 'stand alone' mode. I assume all audio is transferred via FIREWIRE and that should be the only INPUT for the audio from the 002. Right?

Re: Digi 002

on the digi002 and 001 there are 8 in 8 out. But you can actaully have 18 inputs/outputs with correct gear. 8 in 8 out on digi002 8 in 8 out via lightpipe ADAT 2 in 2 out via SPDIF I wish i could afford the digi002, i got the digi001, before 002 came out, even with the 002, i still would of bought the 001. $800 for what i got, can't beat it.

Digi002
Well I think I can snag one for around 1600 so if I sell my Korg D12 for around $500-600 I will just need to come with a grand. (Heh no prob huh?)
PS - Did I mention my credit cards are maxed. LOL. Long live pro audio and high intrest credit cards! |

Meanwhile I'll stick with Cakewalk. To be fair, I've only tried PT Free , so I'm a little jaded. |

I would have to say don't judge pro tools free to the LE or HD versions.....its not even close. I have tried lots of different software and PT's was the winner, that and logic platinum were great!
