What kind of soundcard do you have? If you have a soundblaster, you may already have the capablilty…

To my knowledge there are no free Sound Font players. However, Live Synth Pro is only about $60.00, I believe.

You can also use an SB Live sound card (if they are still being sold). I think I paid $50 for my SB Live Value card about a year ago.

unfortunately PA 9 doesn't support dxi, which you need to run soundfonts without a soundfont capable soundcard. There are no free options, in your case. you could either install "very cheaply" a sound blaster live value, or update to sonar "less cheaply" and from what I've heard, d/l a free lite version of live synth.

I'd recomend the latter of option.

one more option is to get some lesser than Sonar version of cakewalk, having started with a non-flagship version of cakewalk myself, I can't recommend that, but might be a good option in combination with PA 9.

www.pricewatch.com $20 U.S. for SB Live Value.

You may try Virtual Sampler (VSampler). Search this cakewalk forum for many great articles by BluesMeister . I'm sure he is one of the VSampler expert around .

It's a secure sockets layer page on the vsampler site -- you know, just like when you go to make a purchase from Amazon or any other online store?

Oh, I thought god would kill a kitten if I clicked it, or it would trigger a Iraqi chemical weapon or something.

That's very generous of you Clemie. Thank you.

You could also download VS3 from here if you want to try the all-new, whizz-bang Virtual Sampler. Or you can get the older version VS2.75 from here. There are tutorials for using VS & Soundfonts on this very BB, thanks to James Argo and with contributions from my humble self.
