Number of simultaneous tracks...

Just wondering how many simultaneous tracks you guys are recording at once using CEP. I have a delta 1010 and NTrack and am needing 10 - 12 seperate tracks at once. I'm gonna get a second 1010 for more inputs, but would also like to use CEP for the recording front end. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

I have only recorded 2 or 3 at a time at most but I don't know why that wouldn't work.

I have recorded 8 at one time- 7 for drums and a click track.

Cool Edit will handle it easily. The software wont be the limiting factor, your computer will (eg.speed, ram, hard drive speed)

What type of stuff are you recording that needs lots of mics at one time?

I'm gonna' record a praise band at a local church.

6 mics, 2 keyboards, 2 guitars, bass, 4 drums (might submix), and 1 percussion.

PC = 2.4Ghz, 512MB, 2 - 40 GB HardDrives, delta1010 X 2

I'm gonna take the feeds off the board (inserts) for most but I'll be micing the drums myself - sm57, 2 - 603s and a bass drum mic (?)

Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, recording simultaeneous tracks can be done but like Tukkis said your hardware will the deciding factor..

You will need a sound card with mulitple in's and out's.. Or at least multiple in's that can be assigned to individual tracks in CE.

Or

Put down the drums on track one.. Play back track one while you record the bass to track 2 then play back track 1 & 2 while you record guitar on three and so on.

I've recorded 24 tracks at once. If your computer is up to it, the software can handle it no problem.

Bands my friend, bands. I've recorded stuff that had been tracked to my HD24 through a MOTU 2408 right into the computer 24 tracks at a time (Lightpipe connection). I don't usually use CEP but I have.

I have recorded 456 tracks at once.

I needed a couple of adapters.

(either that, or 2...maybe 2 tracks, yeah...that sounds more right)

You won't be able to record 456 tracks until Cool Edit 5.
