Does anybody know of any sites where the recording process of an album has been documented? Any band, any album, I don't care, it's be a really really cool thing to see. Thanks.

Well, this probably isn't what you're looking for, but if you haven't read mixerman's bitchslap diaries, they're a must. Make sure to start from the beginning...that should have you reading for a couple days

Cool

not a website but a video....
Adventures In Modern Recording-Part 2
http://www.modernproducer.com/form.html

"In program two, Eddie takes a band through the entire recording process from basic tracks to the final mixdown. He will show you how to use effects processors and other devices to enhance the performance of your instruments. You will also witness Eddie's microphone and mixing techniques. Also, Eddie will take his tapes into a pro studio to show how to position your microphones "just right" to get a killer live drum sound. Part Two focuses primarily on improving your Production and Mixing skills. "

Eddie is Eddie Kramer, one of the more important producers/engineer of out time....

Ok thanks for the tips guys. I've read the mixerman diaries of course, although not so much helpful on technique as entertaining. I have taken a look at some of the point to point stuff. Although, not to be rude, but Rip's oppinions on most stuff I just don't like. It's not that I can't find it helpful. It's just that sometimes the way he puts things forth just kind of turns me off. I don't know if this is an unusual thing. Anyway, I will definitely check out the video Gidge. Thanks.

The flat out best I have seen is the Charles Dye series where he walks you through every little step, all the way down to his plug-in settings and mic placements and the way his settings affected tone and all... very very very good in depth stuff.
It can be found if you look hard through the guest moderator archives over at gearslutz, Charels was the guest moderator in November I beleive.
Look it up, good stuff. I promise.

yeah, this is a good thread. I've always wanted to see how the pros go about micing, mixing, and mastering. It would be cool to learn ther process.

BTW, Slackmaster2K.
your link was awsome, I spent a few hours straight last night reading the whole thing. Mostly funny, but some info there is actually very educational.
