Cool sound bleeding

Greetings all,
Here is my problem. I have sonar with a soundblaster live card. after I record 1 audio track and record a second audio track, the contents of the first track appear on the second track at around 40db less. It creates phasing issues and generally makes me mad!. Is it a sound card issue or a sonar issue. The default output is soundblaster.

This is usually the problem..

The recording device on the sound blaster has to be set to the input you want to record, if it's set to "what you hear" it will record everything that makes sound on your computer.

Use the sound blaster or windows mixer to set the recording device.

Lightbulb Welcome to the board, gweekster...

Torpid-x has given you the hint. First, double click on the speaker icon near the taskbar clock to open Playback Properties of your SB Live.
Click Options --> Properties --> recoding. It will open this popup window... Select Line In (You record your audio thru this, right ?)... Problem solved...

Help with routing

Hi,

I had a similar problem with input routing and had to keep opening the mixer etc.

Recently I got hold of a proggy called 'Patchbay' which works with Home Studio, Pro Audio and Sonar,... in addition to project, MIDI and audio searching, it has loop drag and drop and the all important 'mix' section which will re-routine the Windows mixer to any input (including 'What-U-Hear'), with a single mouse click.

I think there's a new demo available so I've included the link,..

Have fun,
Paul UK

Those drivers don't support my speakers, or have the toolbar

That toolbar is all I need anyway. The mixer's pretty useless. the only problem (well it's not a problem to me), it doesn't work under Windows XP. I refuse to upgrade to XP for that reason alone. it auto-hides and stays hiden till you click it and hardly uses any resources.

those new drivers don't support my 5.1 speakers properly either.

I Love that toolbar, each once in a while, when licking Sonar I give the toolbar a little love too.

and Welcome PaulUK (I noticed you've been registered a while but welcome anyway)

Hi all, I'm back seeking advice after a long absence, and this thread is similar to a problem I'm dealing with. I've created some backing tracks in MIDI using CWPA, and have recorded them as audio onto a separate track.

I now want to record a second track of sax playing along with the pre-recorded background audio. I've muted the MIDI tracks, set the sound card to line-in (I plug my mic into a Mackie mixer, routed to the sound card line-in), and I get audio bleed from the backing track onto the sax track.

If I set the software mixers so I don't get the audio bleed, I can't hear the backing track to play along with! What am I missing? Any help getting pointed in the right direction is appreciated.

You wouldn't happen to picking up the background tracks through the mic, would you? That would be solved by monitoring through headphones, playing/ monitoring in a different room, etc.

Bingo!

I remember when I started recording, took me a couple of weeks to crack that one... ...

Thanks, I got it figured out. It wasn't mic bleed, I was using headphones. It was dumber than that. I had patched my soundcard's aux out back through the mixer for listening to some MIDI on a different project, and forgot to unplug it.

Thanks for the replies, though.
