Sonar Track editing

Is there no way of just dragging over a certain spot on the audio track and deleting it?? I just wanted to get rid of a little bit of noise at the start of a track where my mic popped when I turned it on. Every time I try this it blocks the whole track and tries to move it.

Also when I double click on the audio track and it zooms in on it quite big....what is this for......what can I do with this wondow??? no matter which taskbar icons I click on, nothing seems to function. Thanks BJ.

you have to slide over the measure markers at the top and then press delete.

to my knowledge nothing else will work.

if you have snap to grid enabled, the selection will be quantised otherwise it will be exactly as you selected it.

The way I do it is to split the track at the beginning and the end of the section you wish to get rid of. Then select the area between the splits and delete it.

You can also press ALT while selecting. That allows you to select a part of a clip. Then delete it.

And as Crosstudio said, disable Snap-To-Grid (hit N).

Actually, since the noise is at the beginning of the track, you can simply "slip-edit" it out. Move your cursor toward the start of the track until it turns into a box with a double-headed arrow. Once this happens, left-click and hold and drag the edge of the track to the right until the part of the track with the noise is no longer showing.

You can also do slip-edits in the middle of a track as well, but for this you need to make a cut (split) in the track first (as AlChuck was describing). You do this either by using the sissor tool, or by clicking on the track at the point you wish to make the cut and then typing "s" on the keyboard. Once you have made the cut, you can slip-edit the track to either the right or left. If you move the cursor around just a bit you will see the double-headed arrow move from the right side to the left side (or vice-versa); that tells you which direction you can do your edit.

The beauty of all this is that it is completely non-destructive. If you wish to recapture the edited part, just drag the track edge back to its original position. Voila! Everything returns to the way it was.

If you wish to make the changes permanent, you need to use the Apply Trimming command.

Lastly, when you double-click on an audio track you open up the Loop Construction Window. Double-clicking on a midi track opens the Piano Roll View.

or you can use a noise gate, or "get rid of silences" option -- I think?

Yeah, noisegate or the "get-rid-of-silence" can be used, but if it's just one place and not every 5th second, I would edit it by hand...
