Question Can't record in Cubase 5/32

Umm, I feel a bit silly asking this question, but here goes. All I want to do is simply record in Cubase 5/32, nothing fancy. When I go to hit the "record Enable Button", 'base asks me for the folder to store my audio files in, I make a selection, but the "enable" button does not activate and recording is not permitted. Cuabse asks me to "please audio enable the selected track". Under "options" and "audio setup", audio is not disabled, so that's ok. I can monitor audio coming into my PC through my speakers while in Cubase without any trouble. I have a PII 400 with a TBS Montego soundcard. Advice welcomed.

Lightbulb

In track view, the leftmost column is for displaying info about the currently selected channel - all your info will run down the left margin of your screen. If you don't see it, there's a small arrow you press to make the channel info display. Once it's showing, there's a white enable button in the channel column that must be pressed - it will turn yellow when you press it.

Took me months to figure that out. I'd have to record audio in Sound Forge and import it before I finally caught on.

Somewhat less than intuitive, huh?

Close....

Thanks you for the swift reply, Dafduc. I don't think my message was clear enough as I had already found the panel on the lefthand side or the "Inspector" as 'base calls it. When I was hitting that enable button, it would not light up, effectively denying me from recording. After a restart of Cubase and selecting a new song, the button did finally light up. However, the recordings I make don't have a waveform to them, they're empty. I also noticed that the VST Master Mixer does not show any input signal coming through, though I can monitor the sound. That's where I'm at now.

You are completely correct though, it's not exactly what I would describe as an "intuitive" process. Got an extra copy of Sound Forge?

Check your VST Inputs panel - I bet it's empty...
