The most kick arse guitar you know?

Hi all, I know I seem new here, but I'm not I've been here before but as someone else. I just lost my username and decided to use a new one.

Anyway, I work for Mousa Genre Promotions with Jazzylilstar; who lurks here on a weekly basis. What we are doing is trying to write an article on the most kick arse guitar that best jams down the house everytime. Uhm, what I'm looking for is some input from you on what works the ultimate best for you. Like those guitars that you can say 'never leave home without it' guitar.

The deadline for our article is the end of April. I'm wanting to make this a nice write up. And we will give all credit to those who contributes.

Thank you

There are so many great axes and it all depends on your taste.

My fave of all time was an ESP Custom based on the ESP George Lynch Kamikaze I model. It was always great.

But many different axes have many different qualites that make them great. Often, depending on the application, a different axe may suit the purpose better than another.

Eh. If I had to choose one guitar to play for the rest of my life, it would be the ESP Kamikaze I. Humbucker at the bridge, single coil at the neck. Maple body, maple neck with ebony fretboard. Extra jumbo frets. Ahhhh. The only prob with it is the damn push-pull knob for pickup select.

IMHO, it's got to be the Godin LGX-SA. You've got 2 humbucking pickups, piezo pickups, and Roland synth access. What more could you need ? You can get virtually any sound you want.
At least it's all I need (although I do have other guitars that I need as well - a Tele, a couple Martins, etc.)
Cheers,
Mike

"...the most kick arse guitar that jams down..."--that would be a gibson les paul--pick one...to be more specific--a gibson les paul custom.

I have a tele I had made from parts I picked out.
It has a really light swamp ash body, a rosewood board neck with jumbo frets and 10 inch radius.
The pick ups are Joe Barden.
The only thing Fender onit is the hardware.
I use it for jazz, blues, rock, country twangin', Chet Atkins finger style stuff, or anything else.

She's a keeper.

Guitars are a tool box. Grab the one that works for the job.

I'm mostly a strat man these days, but if I hear a Les Paul sound in my head, I don't fool around trying to get that sound out of a strat.

i second that ....

Les Paul my personal is studio custom built in 1984 the first year they were made ...this thing has hot pickups when you need to growl its all that and more and when you need sweet singing blues you flip up to the rythym pickup and let it cry all nite long ...ahhh sweet bliss

IMO, if you end up focusing on one guitar for your article, you will miss the point entirely. Guitars are so personal that every single person will give you a different answer. For example, based on our associations on this board I like Lopp and respect his opinions, but I can't imagine ever liking a guitar with a solid maple body.....but it works for him and I can dig that.

I've bought and sold sooo many guitars it's unreal (as a lot of us have). The one that has remained constant in my arsenal for the longest is an early Ernie Ball Silhouette. That particular guitar just speaks to me for some reaons. I've owned 3 other silhouettes trying to duplicate that response and it just hasn't happened - it's just something about that particular one. I imagine I'll always have it around.
Now some people will hear that and say "I hate Silhouettes. They are so small and light - I feel like I'm playing a ukelele!", which comes back to my original point...

The best guitar I ever played/owned was a 1980 standard 80 heritage series Les Paul limited edition 59 reissue.... it was sweet.... it played like a dream and the flames on that maple top actually gave off heat...hehe

Death to the fucker that stole it!...

What Aaron said.

And what style of music are we talking about? Just as there is no 'best guitar player there ever was', there is no best guitar there ever was.

For me, my gigging axes are a 345 and a Strat through a Mk IV Boogie, plus a Collings 000-2H.

Would any of those choices work for a death metal thrash band? Yes, sort of, but are they the best choices? No, not even close.

How about a bebop trio? Again, they could work but are not the best choices.

They work really well for the bluesy/jazzy stuff that I do.

Dammit Aaron. I might have to start liking you, or something...

I thought that axe would receive no other votes. However, like your Silhouette, it just worked perfect for me. Then again, maybe it was the breasts.

This is an awesome response you guys have given me, thank you. Please continue to discuss your thoughts.

Aaron - this article is about all guitars in general. The best ones that works for each individual. Hard to elborate, but I'm writing the article on all, a mix of choices that work for guitarists. How you stated the first part of your reply was interesting. If you don't mind I would like to use that part for an opening? *[Guitars are so personal]* Btw, I visited your site, very nice. It's great to see others in the business. Looks like you are succeeding nicely.

Kelly - what a great guitar that was you had. Eventually the person who has it now, knew what they are stealing.. the wanks.

Sheppard - it's in your will.. way to go right on. Yeah there's no way I can take my fatboy s-60 and my Gretsch black falcon and my custom made by my dad fender cross-dress washburn guitar.

I have a Gretsch Black Falcon, Kelly Jackson Star, and I did have a '59 Gibson Les Paul Flametop..sold. I usually always play my Kelly Jackson, it's sweet and it can do more than what is expected.

Again, this is an awesome response, I would like to hear more.

cheers

Wanna hear from a keyboardist who's played next to guitarists for 25 years?

Gibson 335 - 1962, I think. Used properly, it can cover the same ground as a Paul, but give you interplay with your amp at much lower volume. For small clubs and lower-volume gigs, it's the only way to make it scream and not get your ass fired. Worked great on our higher-volume gigs, too, guitarist just had to watch how he stood.

Plus, there's no other way to play a Ritenour cover.

So when I finally bought my own guitar, I bought an Epiphone Dot. It makes ME happy...

I've owned quite a few guitars ovet the years, some nice, some not. A few real favorites have been a 55 Gibson Les Paul, 64 Fender Telecaster, 80 Vantage 600 VS, which I still have and play, and my current favorite, a 90 something Ibanez RG170. All of them have had their place and worked for the particular style I was into at the time. Good luck on the article, Dani

I just played a Martin D45V today................that is officially the nicest guitar I have ever played. I almost cried at how much nicer it was than my D41.
