Proteus...

I am using a Proteus 2500 (EMU) command station as a part of my beat making set up. My question is concerning the use of its patches and sound tweaking...I am not very familiar with midi patches(maybe problem for MIDI forum...) or certain basics of sound theory (i.e. what results to expect when certain levels are changed in velocity, attack filter, decay, etc, etc...). However I am really into trying to learn more. Are there any personal suggestions or sites that may better direct me? And additionally, is there anyone here using this sound module that could provide Proteus specific insight. Just curious...

I'm a little confused as right now they don't make a Proteus based command station. It uses the same effects and synthesis engine, yes.

Anyway, what you are talking about is envelop editing. If you do own a command station, pull up a patch you want to edit, then select quick edit from the top left area of the command station. This enables all the knobs to act as filters and envelope editors. I don't know off the top of my head any online rsource to explain the theory behind the filters, but the best thing to do is start messing with things and figure out what affect they have.

I learned all about that stuff in class, with a textbook and audio examples of each effect, which really helped, but sadly I can't replicate online..

Hey they do make one! I just found it. When did it come out? I'm surprised its only in rackmount. Either way the instructions will work and the manual gives some basic theory behind synthesis & editing.

Good looking out 9...I do have the manual but without prior sound theory knowledge, it will be a little tough. I have been joshin' around with the different effects and am starting to hear some things, but ....got plenty more to go.
