Tascam MF-PO1 Portastudio

Hello everyone. I'm new to this board and to recording. I received this portastudio for Christmas and have successfully recorded some great sounding material. I was reading that others were using different models of Tascam and recording to cd on the computer. I have recorded to cd from tape on my computer, but due to software changes (I have a family memeber handle that for me) I can no longer do it. May be that I'm running XP. Anyway.........I am recording from a grand piano in my living room, no special setup. Any tips (of any kind) that I can use to get the best quality recording? What about mic placement? Over or under the sound board? And if you have tips on recording from tape to cd on the computer, that'll help too. Pardon my ignorance on this, but we learn by doing....right? Thanks
