Peavey!!???!!!

Why does all of my Peavey gear including the shit I bought when I was like 16, still work, sometimes a little weird, but it works. sometimes better than "premium" shit I bought that costs a LOT more?

I have a Peavey "megabass digital" bass head, purchased in 1988, that has been dropped(several times from more than 3 feet in the air), had lots of beer spilled on it, left out in the extreme heat, cold. It still works, I mean, you got to turn it up all the way and whack the strings of the bass to make the first initial sound come out, but after that its fine! I use and Eden rig now, but I bust that think out for weird stuff ever now and again.

Peavey PA speaker, OLD like 1979-1980, I have actually witnessed these things floating face down in like 2 feet of water after a basement flood. I let them dry out for a few days, hooked them up, they were fine, still in use today. Sure they dont sound all that great but they work.

I mean this crap is built to last, a lot of it sucks but you are almost gaurenteed to have it for YEARS.

Just thought I'd let you know

I have an old Special 130 that has been thrown, pissed on, taken apart, put back together with spare parts, beer spills, insect nests, and the damn thing still sounds great!

I still play through my old Backstage Plus when I don't feel like carryin' the good (heavy) stuff around.

I've added speaker jacks to it, used it as a bass head, used it as a monitor, used it as an acoustic guitar amp (took out the 10" guitar speaker and put in a 10" full range. It had NO low end but who cares!)

I ripped out the headphone jack, and then put it back in later.

Blew fuses on it from crankin it up.

Used it as a step stool.

Once I used it as a jack stand when I needed to change a tire on the road.

I even recorded bass guitar through it once. And LIKED it!!

alrite alrite, I made up the part about the jack stand BUT I'M SURE IT WOULD HAVE WORKED!

Hey, i just realized now that were all in confession mode and everything, how come I havn t seen any Carvin bashers around here?

Yes I own some Carvin speakers, and I'm NOT afraid to say it!!!!

Whew! that was easier than I thought!

Yeah, Peavey is a force to be reckoned with. In the '80s I used a biamped Peavey rig, a 15" 130W bass amp + 65W per channel 2x12" stereo guitar amp for high end, with built in chorus & reverb. That was one badass rig. Yeah, our band was all bass! Although the drummer played with the most massive sticks he could find, and struck the drums with the butt end.

Friend of mine has a Peavey 15W practice amp, I dropped it once (ok, a few times), and finally the speaker frame popped out. I just glued & tacked it back together, and put the wires back on, and it works fine. That amp is 15 years old, we both hate it but it just won't die.

I love that "peavey is a force to be reckoned with"

let me try some:

peavey pulverizes

push your axe to the max with peavey

punished by peavey

a storm is coming, and it's name is peavey

they say lightning never strikes the same place twice. apparently "they" have never heard of peavey

the sound of war. the sound of peavey

metal fucking rules dudes!

My brother plays a strat through a Classic 30.He can get pretty much any tone he wants out of it.We just put new tubes(Ruby Tubes) in and it sings like a bird.Crystal clear clean channel....he uses a B.K. Butler Tubeworks Distortion pedal in conjunction with a little bit of grit on the dirty channel....excellent tone.

I've got a Peavey XR684 PA and its brilliant. The most versatile and easy to use, yet still very good quality (with feedback eliminator to boot), its great.

Its 210 watts a side, and has seperate monitor out puts that can be ran off of the main amplifier (although sucking the power off of the mains). I'd reccomend it to anyone.

My brother has a Peavey Bandit solid state amp though. Sucks ass.

actually they made some pretty good stuff in the '70's although i must admit I haven't heard aything made recently. I got a peavey vmp-2 in trade for a band that couldn't pay for some of their studio time. now dont get me wrong, I had no intentions of actually using it. I got it for cheap and resold it for quite a bit more. I had to give it a try though and i was surprised that it wasn't actually half bad. A little "tubby" and "slow" if I remember correctly but generally ok. I still like my Fearn though.

Actually Mr. Nubs (if that is your real name )

Metal does rule, earth, I think...anyway, I share a rehearsal space w/ a band called Lamb of God who are techy speed metal band on Metal Blade, they have a warwick endorsement, so there are Warwick and Framus amps and speakers every where, but one of the guitarists still uses his crappy Peavey 4x12 cabinet.

I find that amusing

Among all the gear I keep around is a Peavey Classic 50-212, a couple of Profex IIs, a neck thru KOA dyna-bass, EVH carved top, and another very nice Peavey T-60 and some little 30 watt ss amp that I can't recall the name of. It all is quality stuff that has gotten an undeservedly bad rap from some folks.

i've used all kinds of peavey bass amp and pa gear..no problems..

peavey used to be a starving musician's best friend..i haven't bought any new peavey gear though in about 15 years...and I only know one person (my drummer) who has bought any in that time...PA stuff (power amps, board, speaker cabds..) and his stuff is great..

I work at a music store and get all kinds of peavey amps in to fix that make all kinds of fuckin weird squeelin crackilin noises that just suck.......most of the problems seem to relate to the using a tube power amp and a piece of shit front end with 10 or more CMOS ic's.......coupling the two together is a electronics nightmare.......I'm gonna start takin them and partin them out and sell the 12's to high school kids for " car subwoofers", salvage the corners and other hardware and shitcan the rest.......Hybrid my ass......so's a turd with corn and beef....The only thing Peavey made ever worth a shit was the CS800 power amp.....and them day's are over.....besides that , they stole the " Spy vs. Spy" logo from Mad Magizine.......Black Widow=blown wup.
the reason they make them so "replacable" is cause the don't hold together......shit, pure shit. I'd walk off a stage with anyone with any peavey crap. Yea, they sell a lot, but so does McDonalds.....both make you wanna puke, unless you have a tiny budget and can't afford to get a good meal....

I still have my 260 series standard head with a 2-15 cab that I baught in 1976. It never did have good tone, but was loud as hell! I used it for a long time.

It still works like it did, I think thats longevity for you, dont you think?

I have a 4-12 cabnet that has a flight case design and 4 scorpion drivers. I bought it for 80 bucks and it is perfect. I use it with a sunn 200b head I bought for 5 bucks. and a sansamp GT-2 I bought for $20.

I think this combo sound as good as my dual showman stack

I agree with most of what you've said, I OWNED a music store, with a studio in the back. I bought a shitpile of those little Peavey Bandit amps, most for about $15-$20, & resold them for $75, on average. Most of my band's gear is Peavey, & I even have the CS800 power amp, it's in my monitor rack with a Sunn 7000. I have the 1200 & 2000 in my FOH rack, driving a pair of SP2-G's, & a pair of the deep cabinet, single 18" subs. Unreal SPL's! I'm also running a 260 on a pair of Audio Centrons that I use for side fills, they each have a horn, a 10", & a 15", & they get awful loud from just the 260 pushing them. I'm not sure if it's the EV speakers in the cabs, or the power from the amp, or a combination of both, but none of us have ever had a problem being able to hear ourselves when it's up & running... It's funny, but I hear a lot of folks in bands that will shitcan Peavey gear, but they also use the stuff as well, so what's the deal? All the Peavey gear I have has been excellent, but there's been alot of their product that I've owned down through the years that WAS crap. It's almost like playing the lottery with Peavey, sometimes you get a winner, but you usually have to buy 2-3 pieces to get 1 good one. Of course, I've bought all the gear in our PA in the last 2 1/2 years, so that may have something to do with the quality of it... Anyway, just my 2 cents' worth...

The only things I remember Peavey making that were worth a shit were their basses, and the CS800 power amp.

I hate the nasal tone of most of their other gear.

But, after all, that's only an opinion.
