Lightbulb Repair Prices From Yamaha?

Hello everyone.

Can anyone who has had repairs completed by Yamaha on the MD4 or MD8 reply to this forum with a brief description of the fault and the repair cost?

Sharing this info will help everyone.

I have cracked the display in my MD8 during transit two years ago, but the unit was under warranty and the repair was $0.00.

I had Yamha do some repairs on a opamp in the phantom power on channel one. Its didn't cost me anything because I just got lucky. Well, my shipping to them cost me about $50.00 The cost was going to be nearly $200 because of testing and labor to locate the problem. But since we knew the problem, it was like $2.00 part and it could have been something more. The repair of the plastic window to the LED couln't be too expensive. Contact Customer support to get a an idea, if you decide to do it they will have to give you a authorization number to track it.

Yipes.

The display isn't LED, it's a custom plasma (gas discharge) jobby.

You don't replace those easily or cheaply

Thank the Lord it was under warranty! I don't know where you'd get a third party spare for that thing ... it'd be Yamaha, or throw it away.

I thought we were talking about the plastic cover of the display? Which shouldn't cost that much. Unless the whole thing is an assembly? Where in tarnation did you find that is was a plasma display?

tomeh! said: "I cracked the display". Not the cover. Only tomeh! could clear that one up ...

As to how I know it's a plasma (gas discharge) -- for real? Look at it. It's like a lot of modern VCRs etc. If you look closely there's all manner of wires and grids in there. There's no LED display that has all that gubbins.

Look at the colours too - that orange and blue-green are typical of g-d displays. Not LEDs.

Even the manual refers to it as a "Clear Fluorescent Display" ...

Like I said, it's a custom part, either take Yamaha's part, or chuck the unit away, because you won't find one in Radio Shack

Not like a $2 opamp.

Thanks Mike for the display info. I'll have to be careful then not to break it. I never looked at it that close. But I did since you mentioned it, its really an intricate device...
