A bit staticky when using SX

Hey guys. Just stumbled across your little corner of the internet here.
I have a question for ya.
I am running a MOTU 1224 with Cubase SX and I am getting some slight static during playback and sometime when just sitting there with cubase open and opening and closing files. (can hear it thru the headphones or monitors) It would seem that I am getting the noise from data moving around in the computer. Is this possible. I have set the buffer size as high as it will go in the motu settings, moved all the fan plugs off the mother board, tried moving the motu pci card, disabled everthing posible but still a little static. I do not hear it while recording (or just don't notice it) but it is there on playback. I am running XP and it is stripped down to the bare bones.My input signal is clean.
Any ideas out there?

Does it happen on playback of everything or just what's recorded with your setup?

I get it on playback but not on anything else.
I upgraded my video driver and it may have helped slightly but sill a bit of static. It's like when you are listening to your playback after recording a track and you open a window or move something around in cubase, you get static, well its that exact sound. Only when I'm recording I'm not moving anything. I thought it might be random noise but it is in the same place on the recording evertime I rewind and playback.

Maybe you have static RAM instead of dynamic? j/k

If you hear static, it is because your computer is having difficulty playing the sound. This may be due to low available memory, a slow processor (chip) or incompatible drivers or sound processing software or just a bad connection somewhere. First, check all the connections thoroughly and try a different mouse. I've heard of this problem before and what solved it was shifting around the video card and sound card putting them at far extremes (as far as possible from each other). Why this worked is beyond me but it could have just been something as simple as restoring a good connection. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Static Ram....good one !

On closer examination, I realized the noise on playback does not occur at the same place and is quite random. That brings me to the conclusion that it might not actually be recorded, but, when I record 8 tracks , one at a time of say just bass lines or something, then play it back, there is random noise on each track making for one hell of a racket. I checked all cables, routed them away from power cords and such, did the XP tweaks, and all that other stuff. I did notice that the majority of the onboard devices are all on IRQ 11. I am trying to rectify that at the moment. Deep down I think its the AMD cpu and mobo. The MOTU wouldn't even start up with an Athlon cpu in and I had to put in a Duron just so the interface would communicate with the computer.
Mind boggeling.
Anyway, thanks for the responses, and I will let ya know what the fix is when I get there.

Well it was a MOTU AMD issue allright.
Went to a buddys that has an intel 845 mobo chipset and vwalla, no problems! Now time to "Blast' MOTU for being so lame with their drivers.
