Smile Gothic metal, or what....

Hi !

After being here and read a lot about mixing and listned to many great tunes, I feel itīs time for me to post something that I recorded. Here togheter with a friend on vocals. I use an old Fostex DMT-8. Tell me what you think of it. And also, what label sholud we put on it.. Metal... heavy rock... gothic punk... any ideas?

Rock on
/Jocke from Sweden

It reminds me of Danzig

why did you encode it @ 64 kbps? It's hard to give mix suggestions because I don't know if the problems are because of the encoding or not.. You should encode @128..

the guitar sound is good but it's too loud driving right up the middle.. if you could spread it out and lower it a bit it would help a lot.. That just might be because of the encoding so it's hard to tell.. The vocals are too low.. if you put up a 128 mp3, I'll listen again..

I don't know how to classify my music either..

I also listened to handy man.. good song..

the sound is not too good because of the encoding.. you should really go with 128 instead of 64..

good songs though..

Ahh, that encoding thing... Hmm, I am really a newbie about that, I work with wav-files most of the time, Iīm gonna check that "mp3-compress" program better, ... I try to redo this and post them again later. The files is in mono to, I did that to get small files....
Anyway thanx for the respons.

Rock on :-)

I can tell there's good playing in there, and the song is pretty cool. But like BSabbath said, the mp3 conversion isn't too good. It's kind of hard to comment on the mix.
Sometimes it sounds a little 60's like believe it or not. Amboy Dukes, 13th Floor Elevators, MC5 like - with some more modern sounding rhythm guitar parts.

320 is a bit big for some people.. How about 128? The file should be around 4 megs or less @128..

I like it a lot ... beside the Jim Morrison with steroids (danzig) influence a I noticed some guitar passages that reminds me old judas priest ... so it's heavy metal my friend ... good heavy metal tune ... I prefer high pitched vocals like halford ... but the guy did well done ... in tune ...

see ya ...

I would prefer a much more aggresive vocal style, but the vocal did grow on me.Instrumentation was tight.Sounded well written.I liked it quite a bit.Nice job!
By the way, what did you use for drums?

I'm back..

good guitar sound..I would have liked to hear some more bass drum, but more importantly, the vocals are too low! There is a bit of a midrange sound happening, but I have the same type of problem..

my main beef is the vocals being too low.. especially during the part that starts @0:40..

good tune! the vocals and solos are too low.. more bass drum.. if you can adjust the drums individually, I would raise the bass drum and maybe the snare drum a bit.. If the drums are already mixed, lower the rhythm guitars and raise the vocals..

Nice heavy guitar tone, yes as one here said already it reminds me of Danzig. Even at a low bitrate I can basically hear everything (kick drum, bass guitar, backup vox) so kudos to the mixing. The lead guitar could use a volume boost IMO.

Songwriting wise: Rather dark, heavy, dragging. Its metal after all. Pretty good.

Thanx everyone for that great words/response on this song(s)

To beezelbubba:
Drums I use on my recordings is Reason 2īs Re-drum.

To Capitani:
Ahhh old Judas... good metal tune... thanx a lot man....

To B.SABBATH
Yes, I woluld like little more basdrum, but the drums is the first thing i mix (in Reason, re-drum) and after that I record the drums on two channels on my DMT-8, so The only thing I can do is try to eq it a bit.... I the vocals is a bit low, but Jimmy (the singer) kills me if it getīs any higher... I we want little low lead vox, and much guitars it makes it fell litte moore metal, more power.... And the guitar leads.... I am a rytm guitarplayer, I really canīt do any leads...... that why..... But, many thanx for taken the time MR Sabbath, you are a very helpful man, you know that.

W.I.S.C.
Samhain/Danzig..... thatīs great stuff man...
Thanx

quattro_xxph:
Thanx for these nice words..... Yea ok, we simply call it metal after all....

So, Iīm happy cause these recordigs where made with very simple eqipment... I had one Behringer 30$ mic, and that mic put into a Roland/Boss ME-5 (guitar mulieffekt) to get some compressor and some reverb, One V-amp for he guitarsound, The same V-amp for the bass sound, Reason/Re-drum software and a Fostex DMT-8.

Rock on
/Jocke
