cheap mic stands?

Nady mic stands are dirt cheap ($11.99) at musician's friend.
are these total crap or will they work just as good as, say axman?

A friend of mine bought a few of them..I tried to use them for a couple of overheads but they are flimsy as hell.The base of the stand doesnt have enough ass to it to support the boom to be extended over 6 feet high(C1000's almost tipped them over .........they will work for just about anything else.

You get what you pay for.

Yep, lemme know... at THAT price you can't be wrong, but then again, that's what everybody said before... Maybe they are mono, or only one side works, or they catch fire when used longer then 15 minutes, or ....




On-topic: I bought K&M stands at www.musicstorekoeln.de. At €20 a piece I couldn't be wrong. They're metal stands with plastic screws. Not the best, but good price/quality imo.

Six pack of stands with boom heads and bag - $99. I've had a set of these for a year and haven't bent, broke, stripped them yet. But then again, I take care of my gear. The boom heads would cost you as much by themselves. Sturdy storage/tote bag too. Good bang for the buck.

Is the bracket at the bottom of the base(where the 3 legs fold out of) made out of metal or plastic?

I bought a six pack of em last year. Mine appear to be cast metal at the bottom. They have been through hades and they are still holding up. Use em for live sound most of the time. Should last forever in a studio.

I little tip for those folks that own mic stands (with round metal bases) that tip over easily :

Next time you're digging around in a garage sale and you see an old weight-lifting set with plastic-covered weights for cheap... buy it.

Then, unscrew the clutch/upper tube assembly from the top of your mic stands and remove it. Take one of the 20 pound weight disks and slip it over the top of the bottom tube and place it on the mic stand base. Put the clutch/upper tube assembly back in place, and you've got an inexpensive weighted stand that should be much more stable, even with a boom and LDC on it.

Thats the one I was talking about tipping over with the C1000's on them as overheads.

i ordered the 8th street music tripod cause i was buyin a mic from their and shipping was cheaper that way, so i hope it doesn't suck.

its a mxl 603 so it should be light.

You should be ok if you're just gonna use them around the house and not in clubs etc.
