Smile New Equipment & the Promised Remixes

I've had the Fostex VF-160CDR going for awhile and the Lil M-Audio SP-5B Nearfields came in a couple of weeks ago and I have been busy remixing old tunes and laying down tracks for new tunes. (One of which may be my first Colab with another member here. )

Anyway, let's get one of these old tunes out of the way.

The LORD Is:

This is a complete remix. I burned the Basic Tracks, Vox, and Lead Guitar Tracks to CD and imported them to the VF-160.

Some thought the Main Rythymn Guitar was too distorted on the last mix. I recorded another Guitar with a different amp model.

It was brought up that there was too much empty space on the Left Side when the Lead was not going. I recorded yet another Guitar to fill in the gaps.

One of the main complaints was on the Vox Track. It was either not enough Verb or it needed a different type of Verb. I addressed this at mixdown. I used one of the many verbs included in the VF-160, "Arena Reverb."

For Mixdown, I added the the Arena Reverb to the Vox and my Favorite Output Compressor setting. That's it. I decided to try something the Old Fashioned Way, I hooked the analog mixdown outputs to the Line In on the puter sound card. I then controlled the levels via the faders and Panning via the Jog Wheel on the VF-160 and did a Live Mixdown to n-Track on the puter.

After I got it on n-Track, I used a Peak Limiter set to prevent Clipping and added 6db of boost.

That's it! Whacha think?

The LORD Is

it sounds to me like the highs on the drums were boosted too much.. it's not terrible, but adds distraction imop.. the vocals could be leveled out a bit more.. maybe by compression or just riding the fader at mixdown time.. the guitars sound a lot better!!! good song, but the highs on the drums do not agree with my ears.. It's coming along with every new mix,

but your not done yet!
