I have been reading about that unit and I would like to know how it compares to the Aardvark Q10?

Does it take the place of an outboard mixer?

Would I still need a compressor?

Do I still need a hard disk recorder?

Hi --

I think the VM3100Pro is an awesome audio interface.
It comes with the RPC audio card which supports 24 bit, but only 44.1 kHz.

Dunno coz I have no experience with the Q10.

yes. It has 16 input channels with EQ, panning, gain, etc., and tons of 24bit effects.

Yes. It doens't have compression.

It's an audio interface for the computer, so you need a computer for recording with a fast hard drive (7200rpm). I strongly suggest to have a dedicated hard drive for the audio recoding coz when you record the files where all the software and operating system is, you might run into problems.

are you talking about the VM3100Pro or the other Roland Studio package (with a 16-track DWS)? I use the VM3100Pro and of course I can control almost all Logic features. It's compatible with most aufio recording software packages.

I've had the VM3100Pro for well over a year now, and am very pleased with all the features. As for compression, it does come with them at the expense of using one of your two available effects. Other than that I would consider this to be well worth your time and money.

hey devil,

yeah, the VM3100Pro definitely works with Sonar. I use Logic 5.5, though, but not the custom-built version that comes with the package, coz it's shitty. I know a few guys, though, who use the VM3100Pro with Sonar. Should be no problem.

Generally speaking, the VM3100Pro is well worth its money. The only thing I don't like is that it only supports 44.1kHz. Thats a bummer, but should be good enough for most projects. At least it supports 24bit, which is great. I also like most of the effects. Some of them are really good. I am thinking about getting a second VM310Pro with a second RPC audio card so I can simultaneously record and play back 16 traxxxx. That'll be fun :-)

You can use the two compressors and the two effects completely independant of each other. That is the difference between the regular VM3100 and the Pro.

FYI-

The roland pack with the VM3100Pro is the Roland Studio Pack. The Roland Studio Pack Pro is completely different and comes with a different control surface/mixer.

I've upgraded my setup and don't really need the Studio Pack (VM3100PRO/RBUS Card/Logic) anymore. I may keep it around just in case but who knows. If anyone wants to make an offer send me an email texroadkill@yahoo.com
