First Time Recording Acoustic Guitar

A couple of weeks ago I tried this on the VF-160 through it's Mic Pres and it was really thin and I couldn't get any volume out of it.

Tonight, I set my Behringer MX2004A Mixer up beside it and ran my cheapo Mic through it and what a difference. Can't wait to get a good Mic to do this with!

The only effect I added to it was Garage Reverb from the Fostex. The POP around 38 Secs is where my foot hit the mic stand. LOL

Take a listen and let me know what ya think.

A Link may help Huh?

Acoustic Blues Mic Test

Thanks!!!

Excellent sound..

Listening to it.... I see an old man, sitting on an old barstool chair, in a dimmly lit theater on an old stage, with faded red curtains behind him, remembering his days of playing live. Telling a story (as all blues songs do).

Can I have the tab?

I like that very much...

(and by the way, I was so ingrossed in the song, I didnt even hear the pop.. until I listened to it again)

Hey Axe4Yahweh, I think you got a good sound with your present set up, the guitar sounds really nice and warm. It will be interesting to hear it the next time you record it with a more expensive mic, it will be nice to do a comparison.

hey bdbdbuck, do you find that nowhereradio is a lot of work to find mp3's?
It seems to me that I have to go on a search and find mission to listen to anything people are posting. I found Axe4Yahweh's music by scrolling in the music categories to the blues section. I have yet to hear monsterpop's recordings.

Thumbs up

Pretty good for what you used...

Get something like an Audio Buddy and a MXL 603 and you will be amazed...eventually grab another MXL 603 and throw them up in a X/Y in front of your guitar and you will be even more amazed. Keep at it...

Morindae,
I have had that problem in the past, but this time NWR just wouldn't boot up. I'm gonna try it again now.

bdbdbuck, I tried it again and your correct, it worked as it should. I guess Nowhereradio is a little moody.

Thanks Dude!

morindae;

Hey thanks! I appreciate that. I don't know when I'll get a decent condenser mic so, when the tune is finished, it'll still be the same mic. Or one of them anyway. LOL When I bought the Berry Mixer last year, I bought a 3 Pack of Berry XM8500 Mics for 60 Bux. I love em. They sound like a cross between an SM 57 and SM 58. The things are built like the proverbial tank too. Everyone that has bought a 3Pack on my recommendation has been very pleased with the things. I learned about them over at HC's Live sound forum last year. I originally bought them for the Small Venue Sound System I put together last year, not for recording.

Hey thanks theletterq.

How does that MXL 603 compare to the Studio Projects B1?

Axe,
I'm very much into a collab, I'm learning a lot from the one I'm doing right now. It's taking longer than I anticipated, so give me a couple weeks and I'll be ready to go.

Hey Axe4Yahweh, I hear from a lot of sources that the MXL 603 really shines on acoustic guitar. The B1 is also supposed to be a good neutral mic that works well on both vocals and guitar, I guess you could say it's a jack of all trades. You should check out the guys in the mic forum, they seem to really know their stuff. However, watch out, they are really intense. Check out the stephen paul thread and you'll see what I mean.
