Points, money, record sales!

I am in the process of setting up an independent label and have got a good singer for the first release.

I write and produce the songs and they will be recorded in my home studio which I have built up over the years. I will also be putting up the money for manufacturing cd's and any promotions.

What will be a the norm or standard for how the singer will get paid please? What is the usual percentage and at what stage in sales does she start to receive any payments? Is it right from the first record sale or when I have sold enough to recoup my expenditure.

I am not trying to screw the singer, so I am looking for what will be fair and already acceptable in the industry.

Should I be thinking about signing her up to a production deal or a recording contract, as I have other projects in the pipeline?
