VSC3.22 - no sound when playing midi files

Hi all, I am not able to hear any sound when playing MIDI files, either in VSC or any other media player(WMP, winamp, etc). Wav files, mp3 files, etc., can all be heard normally. The song loads normally, and appears to be playing normally - I just can't hear anything. Suggestions?

I am on WinXP Pro, with Roland/Edirol's UG-100. I have a VIA P4X266 motherboard, an Intel P4 1.8G CPU, 120Gb HD, and also use Guitar Tracks Pro (can't here MIDI metronome here either).

Any help/suggestions appreciated,
