mr-8 and windows 98 USB connection

Yeah yeah, I know... it's only compatible with winME,2K,XE... but I've got all my music software in 98SE. Does anyone know how to have the MR-8 recognized through the USB cable by win98SE? I looked for drivers everywhere, updated to the latest version possible on the Microsoft web site... but it did not put any USB mass storage drivers on my system.

Help!

PS: I do have win2K on my computer too, so I can either suffer through boot, reboot, or I can buy a CF cardreader (ugh!) -- why can't life be simple?

Have you considered buying a compact flash card reader? They come with drivers for 98. At least the PNY reader I got at Best Buy did.

hey dyuob,

I guess a card reader's my best bet at this point, but I was hoping someone out there had a direct connection method, so I won't have to pull/swap the card every time. I'm also trying to save $. --- what does a cf reader cost anyway?

CF card reader price

I gave $24.00 at Wal-Mart. Still have'n seen any of the $14.00 to
$17.00 units I keep hearing about.
The reader is a hassle but it works.

I paid us$14.00, but I think it's much easier to use than lugging the MR 8 from room to room (not that it's that difficult LOL!) And I am using Windows ME as well.

Anyone know how to download to Windows 98?
I assume the USB cable option will not work. How about the card reader? Do you need some special software for windows 98?
It's looking like it's time to fork over some cash and buy a new computer. My 350Mhz with 200mhz RAM works fine but I can't see purchasing Windows XP to put on this machine. Anyway...I need a CD-RW and a larger hard drive. Anyone recommend what size hard drive? No, I'm not a professional musician...but would like to make some of my own CD's?
ps...Any recommendation on machines to stay away from would be appreciated.

Lightbulb computer upgrade

Dell has some really nice systems (loaded with software) for around $500.00 They are what we use at work and are very reliable. Stay away from off brands or "wal-mart" stock. As far as hard drives go, I believe you can specify a largere than stock drive through Dell for a little x-tra $. I would think 80 gig would be a good start. Whatever system you buy, make sure you check out their customer support on the web. Some companies (who shall remain nameless) sell you a system for a low price and then can't or won't support it. "you get what you pay for"-The only other advice I can offer is read EVERYTHING you can find out (pc magazine is pretty easy reading) before you by. This forum is an excellent place to get the pros and cons of systems. Good Luck!
