VF160 mixing question

Still a newbie , so here goes a stupid question .
Arrived at stage of mixing down a 9 track song . Have added eq and fx . Decided to mix down to 2 free tracks.
Sounds great on playback but I tried mixing the track down to 2 tracks via buss record . At first had not selected fx along with source so it was dry . When I did select fx it sounded more FX than when I was just playing it back on the mixer .
Am I doing something stupid as the mixdown via buss does not sound the same as clean mixer play back ????Am I better mixing down to internal ?????
I assume there must be lots of VF160 experts out there as there are not many questions on here . All seem to be MR8 ....

Yup, you wold be better off doing an internal mix down, but be advised, you are going to have to crank the Levels to get it to come out right. What Internal Mixdow does is create a new song.

Personally, I prefer mixing down to an external source, mine being my computer. That was I have control over parameters like Pan on the Fostex.

Hope this helps.

Did you record these 9 tracks in direct record mode WITH eq and fx ?......I thought you couldn't do that until you DID go to mix down.....I'm desperately trying to get effects, eq, compressor, or any other peripheral equipment to work in the direct record mode.

I think you may be hearing the original effects you put on, plus more effects added on. i have a VF80, but i know there's a mistake one can make to make you hear effects added to effects. also, are you listening to only the two-track mixdown, or is it in fact the two-track mix PLUS the original 9 playing at once? This can also happen...
