latest VF160 recording

Howdy everyone. Some here asked me to come by and post a link to my
first song with my Fostex VF160CD. I have been playing here in
Knoxville so much that I haven't had an opportunity to record much.
Here is my first effort.

I used band in a box, and the vocals and acoustic guitar are miced in
my room. Acoustic using a Marshall 603s small condenser, and the
vocal with my Studio projects c-1 mic. The electric was direct using
my Johnson J-station.

Excellent recording and guitar playing. You definitely have that Pink Floyd feel to your guitar playing. I guess the slow tempo of the song also contributes to that Pink Floyd sound.

I enjoyed it. The Fostex VF160 sounds good.

By the way, what's a "band in a box"? Do you mean the band was a pre-recorded and you overdub the guitar and voice?

Nice clean recording Jeff.......the whole mix sounds like it could use just a little bit of high end to brighten it up and give it some air.

I find it interesting how we all see different enfluences in other peoples songs .I see images of John Lennon myself.Of course mostly I see how nice it is that people can make high quallity recordings in there own homes without the enfluence of the record company.{Please explain the band in a box}.Nice job Jeff.Hope you keep posting songs....Earl D......

Band in a box is a midi program that lets you choose a style. It comes with many styles, and each style has it's own drum fills and bass lines, strings and piano fills. It is a great drum program by simply turning down the other instruments. You choose a style you like and then it is as simple as clicking in your drums fills a or b style, and if you are using instruments, you type in your chord changes. It uses your midi sound module or soundcard for the instrument sounds. The better module you have, the better sounds you can get. I used the Roland soundcanvas virtual synth program for the drums, bass, and two keyboards in this song. That was one of the styles that came with BIAB. You can even make your own styles. After you program your song, you simply play it through the module or soundcard and record it. then, add your parts and vocals.

I am now involving midi into my setup more and more, because the woman I play with live uses a Yamaha Clavinova keyboard live, and we simply download our midi songs from the net, edit them in Sonar, and save them to floppies. On stage, we pop a floppy in her Clav, and away we go. This led me into studying more about midi, and sound modules. These damn modules are expensive as hell. I would like to grab a Roland JV-1010, but I hear the GM sounds are not that great. But the other sounds are wonderful. BIAB is made by PG music. Just go to their site and check it out. Amazingly, it is very cheap for everything it is able to do.
