MR-8 recorcing levels different for each song on cd?

I have recorded a number of songs on the MR-8. When I put them on one cd the the levels of each song are different from one another, forcing me to change the volume knob on the stereo for some songs. I thought I had mixed each song to similar levels on the MR-8, but obviously not. Any recomendations as to how to get similar levels for all songs on a cd. I still have all my individual track info on the computer, so I can re-mix everything on the MR-8.

check the web for a mastering program.....i used to have one that was free and it would take all the .wav files and match their levels.....sorry i cant remember the excat name...

You could try normalizing, or you could individually go through and use a compressor to get the weak levels up. Some of the first recordings I did when I first got my mr8 had real low levels and I was able to go back and use a compressor to get the levels up. I'm still learning the little tricks, unfortunately I'm in a bigger hurry to record.

btw..I've seen a lot of posts here that advise against normalizing, I'm not really sure why.

I use a Peak Limiter in n-Track or Power Tracks 8 to Master the volume levels without clipping so that each song can be played at the same volume on CD.

There is probably something better, but I've used Goldwave to get all songs at the same volume and burned to CD with good results. It is not automatic. You have to do the maximize volume thing and make sure that the RMS on every song is near the same.

Does the peak limiter come with n-track? I just transferred my first song from the MR-8 to n-track and, even though it does not sound like it is clipping, the meter in n-track says it is. Is the peak limiter the solution to this problem?

A good and real easly program to burn your songs onto a cd with volume leveling is Music Match Jukebox. For $ 20 bucks, you cant beat it. They offer a sound enhancement plug in for a few extra bucks. Get it. What it does is actually give you a pretty decent compressor and limiter. When you burn your songs to cd the program asks you if you what to add volume leveling to all tracks. Its that easy. It works great.!
I have recorded my last live album with the program. It was recorded on a cassette deck and and enhanced in the computer with music match. Came out pretty good.
