Newbie question re: mr-8

Hi All,
I'm a virgin (forum virgin that is :-0) so I hope you'll be gentle with me, lol.
Anyway, I've done a lot of reading here in the fostex forum and haven't seen this question or its answer and was hoping somebody could help me out.....
I'm going to the Guitar Center on Wednesday to buy digital 8 track and the mr-8 is at the top of my potential list. However, I've read quite a bit about the cf card and the potential problems it can cause from lack of capacity. I'm also planning on using some type of software (cakewalk, cool edit, etc, etc,) for final mixdown and mastering.
The question I have is this.....If I dump tracks to the software program and want to record and an additional set of tracks from the mr8 will how does it sync up with the software tracks, or does it even have this capability?
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated cause I don't want to end up with a unit I'll have to upgrade(cf card) immediatley, or worse, a unit that won't be able to do what I need.
Thanks in advance,
Jenny Arnold

Welcome to the forum jwa,
I just got n-tracks a couple of days ago and the tracks go where they belong just like you want them to. Also, there is a provision in there that lets you shift things around just in case there's a synch problem. The mr-8 won't create any synch problems as the tracks are distinctly tagged.

I forgot the card issue,
When you use a decent program, you'll find that unless you are recording extremely long songs, there should be no need for the bigger card. I don't plan to buy one now that I have n-tracks.

I second what bdbdbuck says, definitely no need for a larger card if you are working with the pc. In fact, using the smaller card keeps you disciplined about deleting unused tracks so that you don't end up with a lot of useless wave files.

welcome to the forum.

I have had no problems with tracks sync 'ing up on my PC, I just leave one track on the mR-8 as a scratch track and I just keep em rollin in to my PC. Love it!
