CDR Data/Music, the difference?

I realize data disks won't always work on audio recorders, but I've heard disks intended solely for music are thicker. Is this true? Is there any physical difference between audio and data disks? I'm thinking if there is I might go with one or the other because of longevity considerations. Right now I can use either type.

I actually hadn't noticed that there was a difference. I use the same cd's for data and music........shows how much I know. Does anybody know what the actual life expectancy of a cd really is?

it depends on the manufacturer. I have seen some that guarantee 300 years of shelf life. thats why the LOC uses them for archival purposes.

I don't think there is actually a difference between a data and music CD-R. I do know that you can get CDrs that cost more and have a better coating on them to make them last longer. A lot of them are glass coated. Some say "master quality" which doesn't mean that the music will sound better they will just last longer because of the coating.
