BR-532 Guitar/Voice Input Volume Problem

I've just started using the BOSS BR-532 digital recorder and I have found that when I have my Guitar and Microphone plugged in, I end up getting distortion/clipping when I'm tried to record. I've set the input volumes so I don't get distortion but even with the master slider all the way up the sound (volume/quality) isn't very good.

If I only pug in the guitar or the microphone just by themselves, it's fine. Good volume, nice sound no distortion/clipping problems.

Since I've just starting using the BR-532, I started reading the manual (which is written VERY poorly) and I haven't seen anything that would explain why this happens and what to do about it. So, if anyone has any suggestions I'd really like to hear them.

I want to be able to record demos while playing the guitar and singing through the mic and get a decent sound without the distortion. When I'm ready to attempt a good recording I'll lay down each tack separately.

How do you have the guitar and mics hooked up? What inputs and what cables? If you are doing everything correctly it may just be a performance issue where you play and sing louder during the recording than you do for the sound check.

Thumbs up

the manual sucks---buy the video from musiciansfriend.com
try not to pay more than 10 beans

also yahoo groups has a fantastic group of br532 users--they have faq and a supplemental instruction guide

video

Is the video better than the paper manual? Clearer? More detailed? Or just a different media?

Thanks.

Its more clear than the manual---also if you are new to recording actually seeing what the procedure is can be helpful.

George:

Recording voice and guitar simultanously is a major weak point of that machine. If you're using the effects your options for simultanous recording are limited to the point of uselessness. I'd say the best way to go would be to turn the effects off altogether and use external hardware - there's really no other workaround for this one.

Sorry for the bad news.

Chris
