mixing/mastering software for pc

Hey all.
I'm currently looking for a basic mixing/mastering program for pc. I got a basic knowledge of the mr8 (still experimenting), but I want a program with the basics that will get the job done, enhancing/saving tracks and so forth. I've heard Cake Walk, Club Tracks are good ones. Can anyone recommend any more or which to stay away from? Just basic for me (I'm still a novice). Thanks

n-Track. The forum just below this one. It's all you'll need for a long long time. Best $45 I ever spent.

I second the vote on N-tracks, although $10 for clubtracks sounds like a good deal. The advantage with N-Tracks is that the amount of tracks is only limited by your processor and the amount of ram you have. Many people that have used some of the more expensive software such as cubase and cakewalk claim that N-tracks is just as good, and for some tasks better. I have an old pc with a 350 MHz pentium 2 and 128 ram. I have managed to record 12 tracks using effects with no problems. Other users with a computer that has a similar rating as mine claim to have recorded 24 tracks. I hope this helps.

VST is is like DirectX, in that programs i.e. plug ins are written in them.
As far as I know, Clubtracks only supports DirectX. But, here is an interesting page of vst stuff
