Cool Focusrite Platinum Trackmaster

Been offered a focusrite platinum Trackmaster with a rode NT2 for £419 I really fancy the NT2 - What are your thoughts on the focus rite?? i was also considering the Joe meek MQ3 and the Presonus tube pre - advice would be very welcome.

The focusrite's not bad; a little more diverese than the Joemeek (which isn't bad either), and the mic pres are of a little higher quality. I'd take a pass on the presonus toob deal for now; just a personal preference.

I have the Penta, which uses the same mic pre as the trackmaster. It is a lot better, in my opinion, than the Joe Meek. I think the opto compressor on the Penta is the same as the Trackmaster, and I also prefer it to Joe Meek's opto compressor. So, although I haven't used the Trackmaster, I'd recommend it over the MQ3.

I have the Voicemaster Pro and it has the same pre as the Trackmaster too. Really great sound across all of the following mics. C1, NTK, MXL 67G and the Oktava MK012.

It is much better than the other choices on your list.

Trackmaster! Nice pre, very nice opto compressor on it. I'm bettin that NT-2 will sound nice through it. My NTK does. I'm still sportin wood over how my MC-012 with an omni capsule sounds through it.
regards, RD

I have the Penta too, and agree with the post above about it regarding the pre.... but I do consider my VC1Qcs to have a better comp...although the Penta is more versatile.

I got a Trackmaster a couple of months ago & really like it but I can only compare it to my Audiobuddy & the pres on my Korg D16. Nice sounding comp & EQ to my ears.

Also brought a Focusrite Platinum Trackmaster and all I can say is its superb.

Great EQ and Optical Compresser ideal for Vocals and guitar.

I've used both the Trackmaster and the Three Q. I consider both of them entry level pres with the Focusrite being slightly brighter, and Tree Q being darker. The Meek has also has an aggressive comp suitable for gtr. Both sound rather thin, especially when you start loading-up tracks and mixing.

Talking

I use a Focusrite Trakmaster plus digital card and a Rode NTK - very good combination indeed.

There are two Trakmaster models now - the older Trakmaster differs in functionality from the new one.

If it's good enough for Spike Stent to use on Madonna....
