MR-8 Questions!

Okay. I am just about ready to purchase the Fostex MR-8 8 Track Digital Recorder, but I still have a few questions. I have an iMac, and:

Is the MR-8 USB compatible?

The MR-8 is only compatible with USB 1.0, not 2.0.

Does anyone know of a way iMac and other Mac users can make it compatible with USB 2.0, because that is what I believe my iMac has, 2.0. Also, do we need to buy a Compact Flash Card or does one come with? If so, where can I get it, and how much would be a good price to pay for one??

How can I archive my 8-track data?

The MR-8 can archive recorded data usinbg either the USB port directly to a PC or Macintosh computer OR it can archive directly out the S/PDIF output.

Data transfer with Mac requires a third-party CF card reader/writer unit.

What's going on??


P.S. Disregard the Compact Flash question, but boy those are rather pricy. I was thinking they'd be cheaper....

I don't use a Mac, but I was under the impression that a card reader was all you would need.....maybe I'm wrong.

The only Macs that come standard with USB 2.0 are the new G4s (the ones that also come with Firewire 800 and were introduced last month).

If you have purchased an after-market USB 2.0 board, your USB 1.0/1.1 devices will still work. The USB 2.0 spec is backwards compatible with earlier devices.

To archive data to your iMac, you will need to purchace a $10-$20 reader. You can find then at various sites such as www.outpost.com and www.memoryx.com.

O. Then I guess that solvesall my problems. Then my iMac doesn't use USB 2.0 I thought it did. O, well. Thanks. I WILL buy the Fostex MR-8 now, then.
