frequency response of cassette tape?

I was wondering if anybody knew, in general, what the frequency response of cassette tape is - I guess this is a theoretical question, under best of circumstances.

does it approach reel to reel? I think that's something around 40HZ to 20kHz.

It depends on the tape and the machine that it's in. The average consumer stuff was about 40 to 13k, maybe 15k on some of the better machines. Something like a Nakamichi 20 to 21k. My old Tascam 238 went out to about 17k.
