stupid question?

since I'm unfamiliar with cf cards, I just bought one of the confirmed 256mb cards (lexar 24x prof.) and tried to format it but I noticed with the card that came with the mr8 that one side of the card has a label and the other side is shiny metal the new card has a label on the shiny side...do I need to remove it in order for the machine to be able to read it?

No. The labels have nothing to do with the way the mr8 reads the cards.
