another new acid user

a friend gave me his acid a few weeks ago.. I think it's the first version... Acid 1.

I always thought acid was just for techno, but I see now it rules for any style..

I have a question.. How can you mix tempo loops? It seems like you can only have one tempo in the song at a time?

When I try to use different tempos it doesn't sound right.. I right click 'use loop tempo' and it sounds normal until I use a different tempo loop..

Is this a limitation of acid 1?

BTW, I have been on this site for over a year, and never noticed there was an acid forum..

thanks in advance for any thoughts..

Cool Mixing Tempos

Yeah... Acid only allows a single set tempo. I've managed to find a way around that tho... i resample the WAV file (loop) I'm working with in WavLab ... bit of a pain and kinda hit and miss... but with patience (and probably more experiance than I have) it works out pretty good...

Check these 4 out if ya have time peeps!

http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp...=131123&T=3410

All 4 done using only Acid and Wav Lab... a few loops I obtainined in various places and my guitar (With Pod 2 and a Mackie Mixer)

Not sure about the version you are using, but I can vouch for ACID Pro 3 & 4 - you can change tempo at your whim. And key.

It is a function under the Insert menu, Insert Tempo/Key Change marker - then up pops a dialog box where you can make the changes. Try it in your version.

It might only be a funtion in the Pro versions, not things like ACID Music 3.0, but I am not sure.

Thumbs up nice!

thanks for the tips.. I will try it out when I get home from work.. I hope it works.. Maybe I should just get the new version anyway, but if this works, I can spend that money on samples..

thanks again..

o.k. I just got back from G.C. with Acid pro 4.0..

I'm having the same problem as I did with Acid 1.. I did the "Insert menu, Insert Tempo/Key Change marker" and it changed the tempo of the whole project..

I want to be able to have one part be 100, then the next part be 70, then back to 100 etc.

WTF am I doing wrong? Can a song only have 1 tempo at a time?

Did I just waste more money that I don't have?

Could I have lived with Acid 1 since it's the same deal?

Will I ever find true love?

(sorry wrong forum)

Okay Sabbath, bloody Sabbath -

Where is your cursor (big blinky line in the project) when you insert that marker? If it is at the beginning of the song, then the whole tempo changes.

Here ya go:

Just to experiment, throw a drum loop into acid and drag it out for a few measures. Set the project tempo for 100.

Now go a couple of measures in and click inside the project so you have a cursor blinking - NOW do the insertion of the tempo marker, change it to 70.

To get back to 100bpm, you will have to insert another marker and set tempo back to 100 with that one.

Does that help?

Thumbs up YES!!!

thanks Brad! That was exactly it!

I was definitely doing it wrong.. I probably could have gotten away with using acid 1 knowing this..

Acid pro 4 seems pretty cool though, even if I don't use half the stuff it has.. It came with a bunch of extra discs (Classic 8 packs) plus 6 additional loop libraries, and something called Sound Forge studio 6.0.. I'm pretty psyched about the whole deal now..

Thanks again man!!

happy valentines day!

Acid 1 didn't do tempo changes - they were new with 3.0, I think.

Midi was new with 3.0, too, and VSTi's are new with 4.0. The loop discs pretty much cover the cost of the software, though, at least at the GC price.

If you're like many of the rest of us, Sabbath, you will become a loop disc junkie. From what I've seen of your stuff on the mp3 page, you'll get a big kick out of one of the last discs I bought: Brutal Beats, from Zero-G. Lots of through-the-wringer rock patterns, mostly Zep covers, but seriously distressed (clean version for each also available).

Have fun, man. Lots of freebie VSTi's out there, too. Happy hunting.

Your welcome BS - and thanks for the Valentine's day wish - I am blushing.

That Sound Forge Studio 6 will come in handy, too. It is a light version of Sound Forge 6.0 - a killer 2-track editor. Mess around with it a bit, even the light version is a wonderful tool.

Have fun!

hey Brad, maybe I missed it somewhere, but is it possible to Preview at the loop speed?

As I'm searching my loops folder, I would like to hear the loops at the tempo they were recorded at.. at least until I label them correctly.. Is that possible, or is it just going to preview them at whatever tempo is already set?

thanks.. I'm gonna search for an answer.. I probably just missed it..

I have been making up my own loops too.. lots of fun indeed.

I'm probably being unclear with the question..

I know how to change tempo now, but I was wondering if there was a feature where it would 'automatically' switch tempo when you 'preview' a loop.. as in, it would always switch to the original tempo the loop was recorded at..

this way when your going through a bunch of them, you can hear how it was meant to sound.. Sometimes things don't sound right when the tempo is altered too much, and I have a few hundred that I have to label..

It just seemed like a lot of extra steps to bring the sample in, and then left click and choose 'use loop tempo.'

I'll figure it out..

thanks!

Arrow Preview

if you right click on the loop and say "open media in player"
it'll open in media player at the right tempo... that is if media player is your default player....
and set media player to open files in the same window, so you don't have fifty media players open while you're going through the loops
