DIY Insert cables

I need to make some 1/4" TRS insert cables for my mixer, pre's, Compresors, sound card. I want to balance as much of the signal chain as I can. I was planing on using mogami cables but dont know which one to get for this application. I also plan on using switchcraft connectors.

A little guidance please.

thanks in advance

Ok I did some searching through the forums and now know the difference between patch and insert cables. Would the mogami quad be good for patch cables or should I use something else? What cable would I use for inserts?

Any two conductor mic or instrument cable will work just fine. Just make the connections right. You will need two 1/4" unbalanced plugs and one TRS 1/4" inch plug.

Just think about it...you want the signal to go up the tip (hot) of one of the 1/4" TS cables and through the TRS cable out the tip and back into the ring (in the mixers insert input) then out the other TS cable's tip. The sleve of all three connectors are common ground.

Then it's just a matter of plugging the right way (input or output of whatever gear is being instered into the signal chain)...one way won't work and the other will. The 1/4" TRS will go into the mixers insert either way.
