Question

I am new to 4-track recording, and purchased
a 424 on EBay,w/o a manual. I've ordered one from tascam, but until it arrives, I wonder if someone could help me out. I need to record on all tracks at once (band practice)
and then mix it down to play correctly on a
regular tape deck. I've done some unsucessful
trial & error runs. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Congrats, and welcome to the Wonderful world of Recording!!

Okay, so what Instruments are you trying to record, and what kind of other gear do you have?
Such as Mic's, a mixing board, effects? etc.
