Triton rack & Sonar

I have a triton rack, delta 44 sound card, usb 2x2 midiman, and a mk-4902 controller running sonar xl 2.0. Im having problems with sonar, when playing back audio im hearing feedback in my computer speakers. When using my controller im getting bad latency. When using my patch list the patches i select dont match the patches that show up in my triton rack. What mode should i be in combi, prog, or multi. I assumed multi would be the mode because thats the only mode i use that i get any response out of sonar in, but thats the only mode that doesn't work with my patch list, combi and prog does. Any help will highly be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Wink

Welcome to the board...
First of all, about the feed back problem, we can't give you any clue since you don't explain your routing signal. Post it please... where goes where...

...Multi mode is dedicated mode to play with sequencer. It delivers all 16 tracks (16 MIDI channels) to be played at once. Comb is limited to 8, and prog is only one prog. Make sure you set the Global to recieve all the bank, prog, exclusive, and after touch enable. Set all to ENA. Back for more...

Sorry, can't help you that much...

...Well, actualy, I don't have Triton. But I do have alot of KORG's product (N364, X5D, SP-100, O5R/W, etc...). I use Triton sometimes in other studio. I searched over the net to gain info about your specific Q, but none tells me about Global Mode in Triton Rack. Most of KORG's product have it. Since it was new for you, have you looked for it in the manual ? If you tweak it the right way, it should sound a lot much better !! I know it should.

Reading the manuals often help on understanding new equipment...

With a new Triton rack, Delta 44 sound card, Midiman usb 2x2, a MK-4902 controller and Sonar I would be lost too. I know my setup now, because in the beginning it was very simple and easy to understand, and I've added equipment to that later (a soundcard here and a mixer there), learning things one by one...

did u even import the instrument defineition for the triton into sonar and assign it to the midi out the triton is connected to?

the sounds u are hearing are most likely the cakewalk sounds synthesized by the sound card

well i tried too, all the int def's that i have seem not to work. Only the gm sounds on the list work with the triton. If i select a combi sound or a progrom sound say like percussion kit in bank b on the list, in the rack it'll say dark strings or something?? They dont match. I hope i am using the cakewalk sounds and can change it because i could've went to wal-mart for these sounds im gettin. Teacher what should i do?

Lightbulb

...okay, okay, lets see if it helps you.
First, open SONAR. Click Options --> Instruments --> Define --> Import. Browse to find a file called Korg.ins in your SONAR directory. If it's not there, then it must be in your installation CD. After you find it, pick it. Select Triton (match to your type or just general). Once it's imported, you can see it in your list of devices (uses instruments). Can you do that...? Good. Now, assign all the 16 MIDI Channels on the port connected to Triton to "Triton" (on uses instrument). Lets see if it works...

I think the problem is that Rhythm22 just sucks! Nah I'm just playing. Rhythm is my cousin. Tell them about your routing plan, maybe then at least someone can help you with your latency problem. Do you guys think it could be insufficient ram? He has 256 mb right now. Or maybe theres a better way for him to cross his cables?

whats up aj, a james i've done all that. The problem is that the list for the triton rack only has the program and combi mode, not the multi. It works perfect in those modes its just that i cant use them in sonar. I only can use multi mode in sonar, that's my 16 channel mutl-timbral mode. So when being in that mode the patches and banks dont match the instrument def list. Also when auditioning a sound the quality sucks!!! and i have bad latency. I also noticed that i cant hold a note, when i hit a key lets say im using a string and want to hold it for a measure it'll fade out before the next measure, whats that all about???

i have a korg karma so it should be similar

go to Global

after global there should be 2 tabs basics(by default it starts on basic) and preferences, go to preferences.

while under preferences go to bank map and switch it from GM to korg and VOILA it should work.

I had a similar problem and thats what fixed it for me

Talking

THANKS !!! teach it worked once i change the settings form gm to korg all my patches worked, and the reason i think my sound is horrible is because im using the cheap speakers that came with my computer. I'm gonna go buy me some good monitor speakers and that should solve that problem, do you know of any that sound real good for a reasonable price? The last problem i still gotta solve is this latency problem, i cant lay tracks because i hear the sound about a second after i hit the key. How can i fix this?

Monitors: I heard the Behringher Truths yesterday, and for the price, I think they're great. You might want to check them out.

Latency: You can adjust the latency in Options -> Audio -> "The Latency Slider", but before that you should open the Delta Control Panel and set the latency (in samples) to a low figure (around 128 or 64, but you need to test this, too low latency gives dropouts). Then use the Waveprofiler and adjust the latency after that.

What amp are you using with them? I'm looking for a pair of monitors myself and the Yorkville YSM-1's sounds nice to a great price. But if you need a expensive amp too... now that's gonna cost me.

Now I monitor through a pair of B&W 601's and a Denon PMA-1055R. It's a great stereo and better for monitoring than my last stereo, but I still want the clean, crisp, not-colored sound from studio-monitors...
