That's either a misprint or bad measurement technique, or something really wierd is going on. a BLACK HOLE would only have an absorbency of 1.0, this is considered perfect and complete absorption.

Some manufacturers leave test results as they are recorded, even though they sometimes exceed 1.0 - the edge diffraction on samples sometimes affects apparent absorption, making it seem like the sample is better than perfect. Other manufacturers round anything higher than 1.0 back down to 1.0, knowing that anything more isn't real.

However, in Everest's books he notes that the same square footage of material can exhibit vastly different performance when cut into smaller patches and spread around - again, the edge effect... Steve
