I don't necessarily have to have better, I just want something that works for a good price. I need to block out the sound of a furnace.

I have the same problem

I'm not concerned with noise leaking out of my studio, but with
furnace noise from the basement directly below. Tried turning the furnace off during recording sessions, but it makes the house cold, and my wife surly.

I've put 8 inch batts of rock wool between the exposed joists in the area above the furnace, and covered them with durock. It helped, but there's still leakage from the stairway up to the studio and from the adjoining rooms.

I guess the next step is an enclosed booth inside the studio
