closet isolation booth?

Has anybody tried to make an isolation booth out of a closet, either walk in or normal?

I was looking around my apartment for good places to isolate and this was something that just stuck out in my mind.

I was thinking of just packing the closet down with blankets.

Anybody tried this?

Cool

A walk-in closet with packing blankets and such is a great DIY vocal booth.....i did it for awhile, but it is REALLY DAMN HARD to get a good vibe going standing in a closet......and my vocals suck enough so i didnt anything external screwing with me more......

I use a closet now to record vocals and i get good results. I keep the door open so not to deaden the sound, i also have a coulple of those foam egg carton like matresses in a couple of spots on the walls. Works well for now.

Great idea about the foam eggshells. I never thought of that. I'm convinced now to give it a try. I just seems like a good, cheap solution to the apartment restricted musician.

I tried a couple of forms where I drapped balnkets over me and the mic, but the results were average and the mojo sucked.

I have been singing into a closet with good results. I just set up the mic in front of the closet open the doors and sing into the clothes. I would like to get some packing blankets to line the sides of the doors and maybe a bass trap but so far this works.

...sing into the clothes...

sing into the clothes man...sing into the clothes

..one time i recorded a song where the vocals were pretty low and whispery and the microphone i had didn't have a fantastic signal/noise ratio so I did the following:

1) go into your closet, take a hanger and bend it so the bottom part makes a loop (bend both ends of the bottom together).

2)get a thick towel and drape it/hang it around the loopey hanger so it makes a cylinder that goes almost all the way down to the ground.

3) lovingly lower the microphone by it's cord through the opening at the top of the hanger/towel masterpeice till it's a few inches from the opening. make sure it's hanging in the middle of the towel column and secure it by any means possible

4)lay on the floor with the towel circle draped around your mouth or head if you have a teeny head and whisper sweet nothings into the black hole microphone.

It was my best recording ever up to that point. the closet has served me well time and again. If you are serious about it and want it to sound good, kindly disregard the above information
