Smile Sample Tips

In the past I haven't been into sampling from other songs. I'd like to experiment with it. If anyone has tips that they'd care to share, I'm all ears (or rather all eyes ).

Heres a few...I always try to sample a song that has a sentence or 2 the I can use as my chorus..like (use me up) and when you go to store to cop cd's always buy less known stuff you'd be surprised how many hits you can find!!!! Yesterday I copped this group 8th day...and found like 5 songs I could use.

Just gotta break into the sampling mind frame. I had a Peavy SP sampler for 4 years and only did maybe 4 or 5 samples with it. I had my ASR-X almost 2 before I did any serious sampling and that was in December when my ride broke. Had my MPC for about 6 months before I play'd with it seriously. My first track I posted here is around the same time I got serious about sampling. Around the time I became a member... I haven't turned back yet.

Practice makes perfect... Mess around a whole lot. Sampling can be kinda time consuming but getting the right sound will pay off. You will also find some nice surprises.

Pull your samples at the loadest possible input level without clipping em... More sound less noise.

Some cats like to process... I don't... kinda about taste on that I think. Soundforge is pure dope though.

Good luck...

thanx folk

Canine I gotta agree with you on the less popular CD comment. I find find myself more impressed when i hear beats well flipped with a near unknown sample.

Lazi, its funny, I've had my MPC for years tried sampling only once (a song from the Commodores anthology) got tired of trying to get it sized and synced properly and just left it alone. Now that i'm into PC recording maybe I'll have better luck. I wont be able to experiment for another week or so. I'm swamped between planning out two projects and my job.

sampling in itself is an art . when you sample a loop and freak it or if you just sample sounds the syncing part plays a role andd can be difficult at first when i got my mpc2k i had alreaddy been looping and sampling sond with a s600 the best thing i can tell you with getting loop to sync with out acid or some other program it keep trying some of your "mistakes" can end up some of your best work as so far as what material to use the more unknown the better i tend to us emore record's because the variety is so vast and you cant beat that sound .

Cool

You need to just keep searching through music until you find some stuff that really strikes you musically or sonically, take the impression it leaves on you and work it with your own touch.
no one can tell you what to sample, you gotta just keep looking, it takes time, it can be fun and frustrating.
